Hydrographics

Just sharing my latest mod. I had originally did a DIY vinyl wrap on my center console and some other bits because they were scratched/worn by the po. I wanted it to look more professional and have that carbon fiber look without the huge cost. I found a local company that was famous for doing football helmets, and other custom work. I dropped it off three weeks ago and here are the results.

I am very happy with the look (once I figure out how to upload from my IPad I will post pics).

If your interested in getting done, pm me and I can give you the reps email. I think it was cheaper than getting them professionally painted ($200 for the console and door trim).

Looks great! How durable will the vinyl be? Is it fairly thick?

After they apply the film, it looks like they clear coat it so it appears solid. I rubbed the center console a few times against the cubby hole metal bracket when I reinstalled it, and no scratches.

I thought it looked pretty shiny. For $200, that's a great deal. I am more interested in color matching my console, thus I will probably have to paint it. Love the vinyl idea though!

patterns

I'm not really a carbon fiber - look kinda guy. Thinking maybe the zebra or one of the snakeskin patterns would be a nice touch...

Juice - I have a 2000 so not sure if its the same on new models. It's pretty easy. There are two pins and a small spring that hold it in place. Just get something you can to push the pin out (I used a nail punch) and then pull it out (I used needle nose pliers). The spring attaches to the end of the rest and can be pulled out. I think there is a thread somewhere with photos.

If you're local to the Fort Bragg, NC area, then Ski's Auto Word has a 3M tank that utilizes this hydro-graphic technology. I was just there today for an estimate on a dent repair and one of the workers showed me the hydrographic products. There was a shotgun done in black carbon style - pretty cool.

I think I'll get my door trims and upper console done, since they are local.
