The variability from one car to the next is amazin', eh?

Yep
A sure sign of lack of quality control. |
2000 S
111,000 miles 3rd pump |
01 2.7L manual trans.
121K miles on original. slight bearing wear, replaced it 11K on new pump. |
No documentation from 1st owner. No water pump done with 2nd or myself. Therefore 40k miles likely on original water pump on 2001 base Boxster. :):)

Very poor design....I've put two pumps on mine.
I purchased my 1999 Boxster in 2009 with 104,000 miles, and the pump went out a short time later. Then after reading Excellence Magazine, this forum and Renn Tech I changed it again after going 60,000 miles as preventive maintenance. I've got 182,000 miles on the car right now. |
On my second, first one was replaced at 85k.

How many water pumps has your 986 been through?
What are the symptoms of a failing pump?

2002 S 86,000 original pump

2000 Boxster S, 106,000 miles, my service records atart at 60,000 miles but there has not been a water pump replaced since. Now a whole lot of other stuff has been replaced, AOS, MAF, Ignition switch, gas and oil caps, motor mount, all the little stuff that happens. But no record of a water pump. At my next service I am doing plugs and plug tubes and I may do the pump and low temp thermostat at that time. When I take it off I'll be able to see if it is original or not and will report back.

Replaced at 50k as preventative mainanence.
Original was still perfect. |
None yet 52,245. I have one sitting in the garage waiting for 3.6 LN block to be returned.

My shop is replacing mine. I had a bunch of work done then when I drove it home the water pump apparently died. my temp was running a little hotter than normal and when I parked my car it vented all of the fluid. Thing is that coolant also came out of the filler end through the cap. I'm wondering if I should change out the reservoir too. I assume that changing out the serpentine belt and pulley must have messed with the water pump causing it to fail. Btw mine was at 50k miles.
|
Replaced the original last year at 90K and it was due.
|
How much are people paying for water pump replacements? 13 years and 63,000 miles and to my knowledge,my pump is original.
|
Don't want to jinx mine so I'm not saying!
|
Ok...I bought the car in July 2008 with 75K miles. Now have 107K. I've changed coolant at ~95K and coolant tank shortly thereafter.
