Well, I ordered a totally optioned 987S MSRP around $79,500. I could have gotten a 911 strip for the same price, but 911 is not really what I felt comfortable in (except the convertible Turbo, which was way more expensive). Living in CA and do not have a convertible does not make much sense.

Mid december build time and Mid Jan delivery... I am very excited about it. Actually I dreamed about it 4 times for now. Each dream was worse than other one, but hey :)

Wow, Bolkar, that's gonna be one hot Boxster! Congratulations. I've not ever seen one go over $73K but I have heard it can be done...and you did it. What are your options? Did you get special paint, Tip and PCM? That's like $9500 right there.

think about this one. Worst mistake I've made was selling my low mileage '83 SC coupe a couple years ago. Love my Boxster, but I think I would rather have the 911. The new Cayman looks awfully intriguing tho...

Bolkar, you've done what I can only dream of doing. Ordering a new boxster S all maxed out with leather everthing! Pleeeeeaaase post pics of the inside and outside of it when you get it.

I always feel the need to live vicarously through someone, and it might as well be you for a while :D

I will post pictures as soon as I get the delivery.

As for the tax part. I am not complaining a bit. This might sound really strange for most of you, but I am willing to pay twice as much as it is now. I spoke with a friend in Europe and he got the cost from the dealer there, this same exact car costs 156,900 Euro. The Tax is like 112% of the car price (so many taxes inside, like luxury tax, etc.). And do not forget the gas price there (a liter costs almost same as our gallon).

Let me take a second and thank Uncle Sam for making it possible for us to buy a Porsche and enjoy driving it (well, I can not drive yet, but soon). We are fortunate to be living in US.

So how come you cheaped out and didn't order the Porsche Valve Stem Caps? :D ( Just kidding.)

Wow, three wonderful choices. I could close my eyes, pick one randomly, and be thrilled with the decision.

The 911 has been my dream car since I was 2 years old, so I would have been tempted to go with that, but after almost 5,000 miles in my 987, I have to say that the handling, better visibilty, and same interior might actually make trading up to a stripper 911 a tough sell. The power of my 987 non-S is actually adequate for me. The only thing I would like more would be a C4S what with this being New Jersey and all, but I am looking forward to see how my Box will do with the snow tires I just bought. :)

Not to start a political thread but it isn't the Governator that wants taxes to stay high.

BTW-Did you know that in CA, if you trade a car in, you DO NOT get a sales tax reduction of any kind.

In other states, you pay sales tax on the net difference between the two cars.

Sigh!

To add to the confusion, one can buy a 2003 911 Cab for about $65K. This is one fine automobile!

the tough thing about buying a striped down P-car is that is ultra expensive to add things later. Probably the most expensive amongst sportscars. I've easily spent $8,000 adding things that did not come on it originaly the only consolation is that if added these things via retail or the dealer I would have spent closer to $16,000. I mean that's like a whole car in itself!

I picked the CaymanS, I think it will replace the Boxster as the driver's Porsche.
No convertible top or rear seats? Not a car for a pretender.

I must admit the Caymen baffles me: why would *anyone* want a roadster without a droptop? After all, even Alaska has a summer.

Any opinions on this to enlighten the unenlightened?

well its like this, go out and drive the wheels off a car while blind folded.
The warm fuzzy feeling of lateral g forces coupled with the music of a Porsche engine and exhaust note is why people want a CaymanS. Think the total opposite of Mercedes' new auto brake/throttle cruise control approach.

The Boxster is the only full blooded convertible ever produced by Porsche and its the only car in a very very long time that was soooo good they made it into a tin top. Although BMW jumped on the bandwagon recently with the Z4 (but purely for aesthetics, that car has been a disappointment).

So, Brucelee, which do you think would retain the higher percentage of it's original price after 2,3,4, and 5yrs, the stripper 911 or the (over)loaded Box?

I think the answer is going to be the stripped down 911. I always thought that highly optioned cars lost a greater % of their value, because buyers of these used cars are not willing to pay for luxury options (that add up fast) like full leather, PCM, wood, metal, carbon, special paint, painted trim, and others.
