Probably not, one of things that I noticed was the muffler used the OEM "crossbar" that attaches to two dampers on the muffler itself. Unlike some other exhausts that bolt directly to the trans case.

By the way: they were looking for volunteers but IMHO posted on the wrong board:

I'm always amazed at all of Ed's skills. That man can do it all. Love the show. I just hate it when Mike ends up practically giving the car away and counting all of Ed's labor for nothing.

ekam 03-18-2013 05:46 AM

They did a half ass job on the seats and they still looked like crap.

They shouldn't have shaved those rotors either.

Brucelee 03-18-2013 08:22 AM

Ed is the bomb. The other guy is there for laughs I assume.

Brucelee 03-18-2013 08:22 AM

Whatever they are paying Ed, it is not enough.

Yeah, a least give him a gift certificate to SuperCuts.

It didn't do anything for me I'm afraid, no real Boxster issues dealt with. What about coffin arms, or a new clutch? even repairing a split rear window. I know the car didn't need these things but I think it's set up most of the time, the guy could have sold it to a breakers for much more.
Saw Mike in the local TK MAXX a couple of weeks ago too....lol yes it's TK not TJ in the UK.

Agreed. A couple of hard-braking stops from 75 mph and those shaved rotors will be warped. I was shaking my head when I saw them and that cheap-out decision to shave them.

There was plenty of profit made on that car selling it for 5400 pounds sterling to put new rotors on the car. They didn't have to go with Porsche rotors either.

I think they just wanted to showcase the fancy on-hub rotor-shaving machine.

I wonder if there's any way I can put some dampers on my Che exhaust to see if I can reduce/eliminate the 2500 rpm cabin resonance.

It was posted on our UK forum here
http://www.boxa.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=54791&hl= cheap boxster
It's the UK boxster forum I use allot, and it was one of our members car that was bought for that bargain price, funnily enough we haven’t heard from him since Sept 2012 he only had 4 posts on the forum and I thought we might of heard from him after the program went out, but then again I would be a bit guttered if I had found out that all it really needed was a oil change Doh!!
Guvs.

They did a nice job putting that Boxster back on the road but I would not want to buy it. I will never buy a Roadster that has spent that much of it's life sitting out in the elements.

Most of the show is staged, with crew members and family acting as buyers and sellers. On one occassion, the 'buyer' was someone with a very unusual forename. When the credits rolled, there was someone with the same unusual forename acting as assistant sound engineer! The real hero is Paul Brackley who organsises and advises on pretty much everything behind the scenes. He has a UK ebay account where he disposes of much of the useable stuff that was swapped out. Some of the cars are also sold on quietly by Brackley.

Having said that, it's an entertaining show even if the costs have to be taken with a pinch of salt and it does inspire you to think "I could do that!". One of the better shows on TV.

Does anybody have any idea where they bought that whole sport-exhaust (apparently online) for 500 £? A bargain I would say.

I've watched it twice on the net and would love to watch it again and again. I predict the sales of used 986 to increase following the airing of this episode... :D

Where did you get that Info from then Johnny ?
or is it a case of "I can't tell you that because I'll have to kill you then"
Guvs.

And they actually talk up the Boxster quite nicely....even if it was a 'tip' :)

Funny thing, I was watching the latest series "Trading Up" where they are in search of purchasing a 'Super Car' with the proceeds of all their flips. In the end he chooses a 911, but did briefly look at a Boxster at an auction. His comment about the car was something to the effect of "a sports car pretending to be a super car".

A forum where members sell their car for parts?? No way!!!
