I personally like the turbo look with the black lip. The gt3 looks to much like the original bumper.

I prefer the gt3...don't care for the gaping holes of the turbo look.

I considered both of these options and looked at a bunch of others before I decided on the OEM AerokitII/GT3 bumper. I already had the sideskirts, and the front bumper I found already had the larger of 2 OEM splitter options. I think it is pretty aggressive, but not too 'in your face'.
Both are great looking options!

The Techart bumper is a little on the subtle side. Direct bolt-on too so no BS with fitment.

it looks like you need the splitter at the bottom of the Turbo bumper to make it look right. That's going to limit your clearance. And if the splitter is fiberglass and not polyurethane then its just asking for trouble. Or maybe it looks okay without the splitter.

I have the factory GT3 which is polyurethane and very impact ressistant. It sits pretty low but when there's scraping from going over a 'sleeping policeman' (aka speed bump) or sloping drive way, the scraping is underneath where you can't see it and since I don't need a splitter there's nothing for it to catch onto and cause damage.

Come to think of it the splitter looks a little funny being that it comes from the 996 parts bin and on that car its intended to work with a rear spoiler and that's just not part of the 986 aero package.

p.s.
I wonder how long it will be until we see a 981 front bumper and headlight kit with new fenders and all. There are so many 986/987 out there now I'm sure many will want to get that Ferrari look.

YO! Jacabean, where did you find a Techart bumber? That is my favorite replacement bumper. Do you know if any others are available?

AKL:cheers:

It was purchased off ebay , thanks to JDs keen eye . You can certainly get one if you pony up the $$$$$$ . I think you can get them discounted these days because it is an older part .

Would you mind telling me what you paid for it or at least a ballpark figure so I have something to go by? I will check out ebay and see what comes up. Thanks,

Whatever you go with, I recommend using a factory part. My aftermarket TT bumper required a lot of work for proper fitment.

jacabean 03-05-2013 05:46 AM

you can contact any Techart dealer for pricing . I think you can get one for around 1800 . The part fits with no issues , it is not fiberglass ! you have to cut your radiator ducts back. there is some extra work with the paint prep due to extra material that has to be sanded.

the other issue is fragility. This car gets a lot of jarring on the road. If the fiberglass is cheaply made and the car is driven daily you'll get a fair amount of chipping and cracking.

On the other side of the materials spectrum, I just received the Boxster Spyder rear bumper "clip" from GT3tek. They seem to specialize in polyurethane bumpers and spoilers. I was expecting two packages to arrive last week a set of Depo LED tailights and the rear bumper part from GT3tek. The first box arrived and I presumed it was the LEDs because I was expecting a large box for the bumper.
Turns out the rear bumper diffuser was in that box. The polyurethane GT3tek used was so flexible that they are able to fold it into a medium size box. I layed out the bumper for a few days to fully stretch out and there were no creases or bends anywhere.
That's the kind of flexibility you want in an impact area. The paint may crack or chip in a parking mishap but the part itself won't break so easily like fiberglass.

here's their 996.2 GT3 front bumper. Fit appears to be pretty good so the less labor for the bodyshop to charge you.

I agree +1, +1, +1...although mine was an aftermarket GT3 bumper, and that is the look I prefer.

Here's an extensive list of aftermarket body kit manufactures and suppliers that I helped compile.
