Got T-Boned today

Out for a short drive to the store on a nice sunny day with the top down and I come to an intersection, stop and let a few cars o and then proceed into the intersection when an 85 year old lady comes right through without stopping and hits me on the passenger side, spun my car around twice!

Considering the force of impact I am surprised how she held up, but also surprised that no side airbag deployed??

Now to deal with insurance and see if they total or try to repair.

Ouch!

Glad you weren't hurt!
Put it back to stock, and fast, because that will likely be written off.

sweeper 02-16-2013 10:57 AM

Ouch! Glad you are okay! Hopefully the insurance company takes care of you- The fact the door seal is curled back is not a good thing from a repair stand point- It took the hit well.

That looks like the dent an old Buick might make!

recycledsixtie 02-16-2013 11:12 AM

It was fortunate you did not get hit on the driver's side as u might have got hurt.
The car does not look so good. I hope you get satisfaction from the insurance co.
The offending party's driving days should be over. You have my greatest sympathy...:eek:

jdiba 02-16-2013 11:16 AM

DAMN. Sorry Man....cars can be replaced. YOU can't be. Look at it this way... You get your Box repaired...

or you get another Box !

Flavor 987S 02-16-2013 11:20 AM

Hate to see this. Sorry. I'm glad you did not get hurt. Hope grandma is A-OK too. That's why we have insurance.

boxster6354 02-16-2013 11:46 AM

Thanks

Yes all were ok and nobody got hurt, which is all that really matters.

She was driving an old Honda Accord and did not get hardly any damage.

Frank A 02-16-2013 11:56 AM

Ouch, at least your OK. I too live here in Houston. I have been around quite a bit and driven in many countries, Houston by far has the worst drivers that I have yet to encounter. Not to be a vulture but if you plan to part anything out let me know. I have a 2000 S same color if you want to swap parts before the insurance Co has there way with you.
Frank

Sorry to see the car like that, but glad you did not get hurt. Gosh, what does the inside interior view look like?

kashmir 02-16-2013 12:15 PM

ouch!!!!! But it does not look to fatal. A new door and it is not to deep into the rear quarter panel.

Actually if you look from the drivers side you can not tell it was in an accident, no damage on the inside only from the passenger side, the front quarter panel took some damage and the passenger side door is toast (came in about 8 inches) though the glass did not break as widow was up and the rear passenger panel is toast, have not looked up under the car yet but no leaking fluids and it was drivable back to the house, although I was only 10 blocks away from my house.

I am actually very impressed with the way the Box took the hit, I have been in other cars that took a similar hit and the outcome was much more damage.

Waiting on the insurance adjuster to call, supposed to come by tonight to look it over and give me some more information.

Again quite impressed with the ability of our little cars to take a hit like that and protect the occupant.

I knew I should have said yes to Lou to go on a nice drive today, but was on standby to fly out to the Netherlands on business....... needles to say my travel plans have changed slightly

kashmir 02-16-2013 12:58 PM

Again I would like to say, this car would be an ez rebuild, the unibody does not look bent from the photo, the intake on the passengers side is a dummy, its mostly skin deep.

WhipE350 02-16-2013 01:16 PM

Good to see everyone is ok. Such a nice ride too, you've done some great stuff to it from what I could tell in your 'Garage'.

recycledsixtie 02-16-2013 02:38 PM

One of the above posters says that it could be a relatively easy fix. From my perspective if it was mine I hope the insurance co. totals it so I could start afresh.
If it was fixed up I would question whether it would be totally aligned after bodywork was done? Also when u came to sell it (if you wanted to sell it that is) and the prospective buyer asked, "has it had an accident?" You likely would say yes.
I would likely only settle for a big cash settlement. Oh by the way do you have any whiplash? I am not litigious crazy but don't rush into signing anything. Is your brain scrambled? Are u thinking clearly? Don't rush into any decisions. That is my 5 cents worth..........:(:(

Barteur 02-16-2013 02:41 PM

Glad to see you were not hurt and I hope this get sorted out to your advantge or at least the way u want!

thstone 02-16-2013 04:25 PM

Glad that you're ok. That is what matters most.

As Recycledsixtie said, I'd prefer to have it totaled. The resale value will take a big hit after an accident like that. No one will want to touch your car because of the risk that something was not repaired correctly.

BYprodriver 02-16-2013 04:27 PM

Glad you are OK. The airbag should not deploy unless there is enough weight on the seat to make it think the seat is occupied.

Glad you're ok Travis. I cringed when I saw the damage on that beautiful car of yours. I was looking forward to us going next Sunday to the LSR Concours on the Kemah Boardwalk.

Neekk1 02-16-2013 06:15 PM

Well if they total it would you consider selling the headlights and taillights ?

Chuck W. 02-16-2013 06:18 PM

Glad you are OK. IMHO, they will total it. Might want to swap wheels out and any other high end mods. Best of luck.

Perfectlap 02-16-2013 06:20 PM

your loss might be saving someone's life in the future. Assuming that the old lady has been permanently benched via huge surcharges.

Ckrikos 02-16-2013 06:23 PM

I'll take the aero bumper And spoiler if they total it.

Porsche Chick 02-17-2013 07:10 AM

EEEK! That looks like that was pretty scary! Did you beat the old lady senseless? I'm afraid that would have been my first instinct. :D

Tell us how well your insurance company does, in terms of payout (just a general idea). I'm interested to know which companies are good and which are just blowing smoke.

The real question is the frame, is there any frame damage? If not, it could be fixable.

Kenny Boxster 02-17-2013 08:18 AM

Some of you guys are like vultures after this guy's parts. Cool down and let OP get his bearings!

Thanks Kenny, thought I would have to get some dead animals and throw them in my yard for a minute. :D

I wonder if it didn't deploy because there was no one in the passenger seat?

You got any dead squirrel? How much you want for it? :p

986_c6 02-17-2013 05:44 PM

Glad you are ok, and it is getting to be a pretty big problem these days with older drivers.

My three accidents in 23 years of driving were 1) old lady t-boned me ran a red with foot on gas, 2) old man t-boned me, ran a red, 3) hit the dumbest doe in the world on a freeway.

deptotpr 02-17-2013 08:03 PM

Glad you are alright, and you did not drag the old lady down the street. lol

Jaxonalden 02-17-2013 09:55 PM

I t-boned a guy that made an illegal left turn, I was in my Toyota truck. I loved that truck and didn't want to give it up. Insurance totaled it (repairs exceeded 80% of it's current value), I told them I wanted to keep it. They would have given me $6,600, I bought it back for $600.

Still have my baby and got $6,000. I've slowly gotten parts (hood, frt rt fender, bumper, radiator etc.). Best choice I ever made. Look in my garage link on the left and pull up my VW, you'll see my white Toyota truck in the background..

Weigh your option to buy the car back. If someone on here wants it bad enough, ask the insurance company how much they need to buy it back and see if you can resell it for more...I bet you can. You have a nice car there with A LOT of parts! I would put it back on the road.

Good Luck in whatever you decide.

Flavor 987S 02-18-2013 06:14 AM

FYI. A 986 does NOT have smart air bag technology regarding the passanger seat. Porsche did not start doing this until the 2006 MY. Slightly ahead of the schedule mandated by the Gubbermint.

dagdisco03 02-19-2013 04:24 AM

I think it's totaled. Shop is going to quote big money to fix that. What are those wheels they look great on your car and I haven't seen them before.
