Wiper Motor Toast
Well... it seems that my wiper motor is toast. I have been fighting with my wipers since I bought the car. I thought that the previous owner might have used Rain-X since the blades would chatter and skip. It became so bad that I have blown the wiper fuse 3-4 times. I even scrubbed (and scratched) the windshield to try solving the problem.
Anyway, after blowing the fuse yet again, I decided to check out the motor and linkages. I noticed that the motor was super hot and was blowing fuses even after I disconnected the linkage. I opened the motor and the stench of cooked insulation wafted out. My questions to all who are most knowledgable: Do Boxster wiper motors have known problems? Is this uncommon? Could Rain-X, etc. have stressed the motor over time? Is it necessary to periodically lube the linkages? Any other tid-bits I should know? Thanks! ---------------------- 2001 Boxster S |
K80Kid, I don't think the Rain-X had anything to do with it. If the Rain-X is properly applied, you don't need to even use the wipers. I went to college with the grandson of the Rain-X inventor!
If you want to really clean-up your windshield, use a clay bar. |
