Zeintop

Found an unused zeintop stored in a garage in Philly thru this forum. Shipped it to the Philippines and finally had it installed. Thanks 986forum.

First one I have seen. I really like the look. How difficult is it to take on and off.

Thanks for the kind words. Tropical heat, humidity, urban pollution and rain just doesn't agree with convertibles in Manila so a hard-top makes sense. Taking it off is not hard at all but you do need 2 guys on either side to do it. Not heavy at all. Removes exactly like the short original hard top option - 1 windscreen latch in the middle and 2 lever spin-locks on both sides. The rear trunk clamshell hatch is attached to the main roof with hinges and struts which makes the job for a bit harder since you're taking the roof off WITH the trunk lid in one piece so its definitely bulky. But seriously, 2 guys, 60 seconds and your done. The hard part is finding a place to set the whole thing down once removed!

I don't believe so. The company went under but the "inventor" would like to make another go if he finds a new investor/partner from what I hear. What's confusing is that the ex-partners went their separate ways and I really don't know who's the legitimate one. I just lucked out on this forum last October when someone posted an add for anyone to make an offer. He purchased the top a couple of years ago but got rid of the car before he was able to install it. Ended up sitting in storage in its original packaging. At any rate, it appears that many people are still interested so I expect the tops to be back on the market soon.

Type Zeintop and search the threads on this forum, rennlist and pelican parts to get an idea of what went down. Too many horror stories about people paying in full but never getting their tops. Its a shame since its a good quality kit using original porsche mounting hardware.

Shame. As you say I'm sure the moulds will surface again at some point in the future? Yours looks great.

HAHA Thanks cbbpop! Still looking for a pair of clear litronics at a price I can swallow. Meanwhile, I was planning to vinyl smoke it this weekend as someone suggested. For now, its the "scrambled egg look"

So what came first, the Zien Top or the Cayman? My guess is the Cayman, but it seems the Zien Top has been out an awfully long time and the Cayman just a couple of years.

If it is the Zien, did Porsche copy his design to make the Cayman?

Looks great. You wouldn't think it was a Boxster at first sight.

What part of Manila are you from?

I like the 110 as much as the Zeintop!

Is that a dormmobile?

Thanks for looking guys.

Not sure about which came first - good question though. I recall reading somewhere that the zeintop is the boxster top porsche "should have made".

Thanks landrovered. I got crazy into rovers a while back and still own a disco and a range. Its like owning 3 needy wives The 110 is a special vehicle made in the factory equipped with a giant A/C on top of the tropical roof. The kids use it for daily for the school run. Posting a pic for you of me and my son giving the 110 a bath (hope the forum doesnt mind)

Nice, I love the Zambezi silver.

This is a picture of my NAS 110 that I had.
and this is a picture of my zeintop with my current RR HSE

If I was outside the US I would love to have a G4 110 or a G4 Sport.

18" wheels, five spokes for instance, would make this car with the Z-top look totally different. I would add a rear spoiler like on the Cayman R with the PORSCHE decals.

$3400 plus shipping is a good deal to turn your car into a Cayman!!

I really think the more you tried to make it look like a Cayman, the worse it would look.

I sometimes think the Zeintop would have been better if they hadn't tried so hard to mimic the Cayman's side window line. Maybe it would look better without the small quarter light / extra window - so the side window glass and sloping roof line was a bit like the original Audi TT concept:

I think the result might be something more distinctive and individual than the Zeintop and less "I'm trying to be a Cayman".

Here is a an alternative to the Zeintop that is available from France. I had coresponded with him and he was a very nice person. I like his tops as well as the Zeintop.

D-Moris-Equipments

The quality of the interior finish of the DMorris top is head and shoulders above that of the Zeintop.

Also you dont have to remove any body panels !
