Emergency!!!!
My dad used my Boxster and came home,I went to start it and it wont do a damn thing. Wont turn the ignition on,wont pop front hood or rear without alarm pad. Any input would be greatly appreciated as I need the car in a hurry.

The front hood opens how and Im charging the battery now(although it is not dead). It still wont even turn the dash lights on,or let me turn the key half way just barely. HELP!

I guess your ignition switch may be broken, so your key stuck when it turns. Check this tread:
http://986forum.com/forums/performance-technical-chat/3422-ignition-switch.html?highlight=ignition If that is the case, that is easy and cheap to fix. Search "ignition switch" in this forum or renntech.org. I think u should be able to fine instruction about how to replace that. Hope it helps. |
Sounds like the ignition switch to me too. Some folks have found the switch for around $10. You can get the switch and swap it yourself or have a Porsche specialist put it in.
The dealer will want to put in the updated ignition switch which requires replacing the locking tumbler and re-programming the keys....aka $600. |
I think, based on replies on PPBB that the steering wheel had tension on it pushing it up against the lock. All he needed to do was move the wheel while he was trying to turn the ignition key.
The comment was something like, "I never lock my steering wheel but my dad did". Seems someone doesn't know how steering locks have worked for the last 20 years......... It would be fun watching him try to start a 60's era Ford pickup (is there anyone else here that remembers the cross handed technique needed to get the steering lock to release?) |
