Which wheel bearing should I use?
I'm planning to replace the rear wheel bearings on my 99 Boxster. Pelican Parts offers a couple different bearing options: FAG (OEM) for $36.50 and SKF (OEM) for $82.25.
Any suggestions on which one to use? I tend to subscribe to the "you get what you pay for" mantra, but wanted to check with the experts on this forum. Thanks in advance, Tim |
I am in the same boat. Anyone?

FAG are an excellent brand, however SKF are the Rolls Royce of the bearing world, your choice from there!

After looking at a lot of postings, I ordered up a pair of OEM ones from Sunset Porsche. I am surprised that mine have gone out so early. I have 21,800 miles on the Boxster. It is a garage queen, never driven in the rain, never tracked or auto crossed. Hummmm..... maybe I answered my own question. It needs more exercise!
Also, I bought them from Sunset Porsche in Oregon for $57.16 each plus shipping, no tax. |
I just ordered my set of wheel bearings. Can't wait to get these suckers installed, along with my new suspension, and motor mount. I hope to cancel out all the vibration in the car. I ordered the FAG from pelican parts.
Thanks for the thread guys. |
Wheel bearing are a strange thing... I have had bearings go bad with less than 15,000 miles on them and others that never go bad after driving the car 300,000 miles. I wonder if LNE would build a ceramic wheel bearing??
