New Boxster Owner Checking In!

Heya guys and gals... Just thought I would pop in and say hey. I just purchased a 2009 Boxster S, triple black. CPO car with 28K miles. 6 speed.

A quick question - My car does not have the wind deflector kit installed and I would like to purchase one asap. I'm being told different stories about what the correct part number is for the deflector kit. Will any kit for a 987 work? Were there changes to the roll bar in 2009? Is there a difference in the roll bar between a base and an S? This may seem like a silly question, but I had one dealer tell me the part number was different between a base and an S. Here are the two part numbers I know of. Keep in mind my car does not have the brackets for the glass between the hoops to hold the glass either.

987 561 125 00 (this is what I'm being told is the only kit that will work)

987 044 800 03 (this kit is supposed to fit 2005+)

Any help would be appreciated...

Here is a pic of my new ride...

Congrats. Very nice! I have the same Carrera Classic 19" wheels.

Call Sunset Porsche for part numbers and pricing. Ask for Phil Coy. Great guy. 503-641-8600.

If you are a do-it-yourself kind of guy, this would be an easy weekend project. Save MAJOR $$$$ over the dealship.

The windstop is a must have option. It will make your driving experience even that much more enjoyable, and extend the driving season.

Welcome. Nice ride.

Does it have a white top? Are you Malloy or Reed?

Adam-12, I think. Their call sign in the show was "One Adam Twelve". Still a Jack Webb show, though. :D

And a gorgeous car!

WhipE350 01-09-2013 08:33 PM

Considering the warm weather in the SouthEast today I think 1 Adam 12 is probably still out cruising around even at this very late hour.

Enjoy such a fine ride. a 2009 'S' is truly a wonderful car.

1atom12 01-10-2013 04:38 AM

Paid 41K + tax... I specifically chose a 2009 S because I wanted a no IMS car with direct injection...

This is my second Boxster. I owned a 2000 base (also triple black) from 2001 through 2003. I have missed that car something fierce since I got rid of it and finally had a chance to find another one. BTW, these cars have gone through some significant upgrades over the years and I'm not just talking about the 2013 car. My 09 seems leap years ahead of where my 2000 was with regards to fit and finish, ride, etc... Of course the power is off the charts compared to my 2000. I didn't think that little "S" badge could put such a big smile on my face.

I'm going to order the parts today for the wind deflector kit and brackets unless someone can come up with a cheaper solution. I'm looking at $550 total including the deflector kit and mounting hardware kit.

And yes, I was a big Adam 12 fan back in the day... ;)

Didn't mean it that way. The picture made the car look like a model. Especially sitting on that rough platform.

Black is actually my favorite color on the 987. I saw one at the mall the other day with black BBS wheels and PORSCHE decals on the doors in dark grey and it was parked next to a black Cayman in a similar triple black edition thing. They must work for the Porsche dealer up the road.

1atom12 01-10-2013 06:49 AM

No offence taken... It does look like a model in that studio picture... :)

That seems high. Did you check with Sunset Porsche? Parts should be closer to $300. See the competitive Suncoast ad here:

Wind Deflector: Porsche Parts & Porsche Accessories - Wholesale Porsche Parts & Tequipment - Cayman Panamera Cayenn

Sunset and Suncoast have similar pricing.

1atom12 01-10-2013 08:29 AM

The defector kit (not including the brackets) retails for $560. My dealer is selling it to me for $477. They are selling me the brackets for $47. I'm guessing it won't be too difficult to install. I've read that the 987.2 cars are predrilled for the brackets?

I can't actually see for myself until I pickup my car on Saturday. I bought it last Saturday, however, there were some rock chips in the front bumper and hood and I wanted the parts repainted. I am making sure the car's documentation states that the front bumper and hood were resprayed due to rock chips.

Meanwhile, the gave me a 2013 Panamera 4 Platinum Edition to bum around in for the week. :D

Perfectlap 01-10-2013 09:12 AM

Being that your last Boxster was black, you've probably already heard of this stuff, but if not I consider it a must have for maintaing a black car. I only wish I knew about when I was trying to keep my black car clean for five years.

Finish Kare 425 Extra Slick Final Body Shine, finish care quick detailer, ultra slick detail spray

with long nap towels like these, the typical microfiber towels are too rough for black paint imo.

+1 on the FK 425 -- I have tried lots of different QD sprays & this is really the BEST stuff IMO. Buy the big jug when it is on sale online if you can, you'll love it. I also have the triple black, only unfortunately a bit older than the '09...
