How to change the shift knob.

Does any have instructions on how to change the shift knob on a 99' boxster?

To remove the boot and knob you would first have to pry gentle up on the bottom edge of it. The bottom of the boot is snapped into the console. Next lift the boot over the knob to expose the back of the shift knob. Should there be a 5mm Allen loosen it and then just lift the knob off of the shaft. All other manual shift knobs without the 5mm Allen are simply pushed on and require more lifting force to be removed on the 986 and 996 models.

Thank you for the help. I will report back when I change the shift knob and boot when they show up.

It's a whole 20 second swap job. It was my first mod and far easier than I thought. Just grab the leather around the base and yank upwards. It won't break anything.

Randall....

Could you tell me what you replaced your shifter with? I have spent more time looking at other cosmetic upgrades and not really researched the shifter. But that thing really needs to go!

Thanks in advance!
