Exploring the Boxster

I was cleaning the front trunk of my Boxster and I removed one of the black panels to find what I beleive was the cabin filter. Am I correct in thinking that it was the cabin filter? A Porsche dealership was trying to charge me $40 in parts and $50 for labor to put in the charcoal cabin filter.

If the panel you removed was on the passenger side, then that is the cabin filter. 3-5 minute job, depending on how many pre-beers are consumed.

The Porsche dealer techs drink only Grolsch prior to changing the cabin filter. That's why it costs so much.

I debated going with the non-charcoal or the far more expensive charcoal filter for about two minutes. Top is down most of the time, so why bother with a filter that's twice the cost?

I got the cheap one and did it in five minutes. I was stone cold sober though.

Hi,

Exactly - Smart Choice! Paying the premium for the Activated Charcoal Filter is, in deference to my friends who are Subjects of the Queen, - BULLOCKS! This is especially true if you are doing most of your driving Top Down. My Car had the Activated Charcoal Filter and I changed it for a straight Paper Filter.

I remember the days when the air wasn't filtered at all - nobody died. I concede that filtered air has the potential to extend the life of the fan (because there isn't a lot of junk to clog the bearing(s), and after Winter Storage you may find the Car smelling lees stale (because there's less potential Mold in the Ductwork).

But an Activated Charcoal Filter on a Convertible is akin to adding Slick 50 to the Crankcase, needless and much more spendy...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

How much did you pay for the non-charcoal filter? The activated charcoal one is only $25 at AutoHauz http://www.************************************************************/search/productx.aspx?sid=xbqt0gjsccskucmbv5g0xnvr&makeid= 800019@Porsche&modelid=1417924@BOXSTER%20S&year=20 03&cid=24@AC%20%26%20Heat%20-%20Climate%20Control&gid=6832@Cabin%20Air/Pollen%20Filter
