Porsche Boxster S - Starting problem
Hello Everyone. I'm back, and have pulled my 2000 Boxster S (90K miles) out of storage and have started driving again. However an annoying problem has developed.
Often times turning the key of the car results in the starter not engaging. No crank, no noise from the engine bay, etc. It's just dead. When the car does turn over it will stall on the first and sometimes even second start. After that it will fire up, idle, run, and drive just fine. I've replaced the ignition and the clutch switch. I've got no floor mat in the way, etc. There are no codes being thrown by the issue, and I've got no CEL. Any thoughts? |
Maybe battery... How old is your battery?

I have the same issue --- and replaced the same 2 parts THIS has always worked for me so I think I've still got a defective clutch switch ... If it exhibits the same symptoms .....pump the clutch a couple times and be sure it is ALL the way to the floor --- it has started first time every time over the last 4 months for me after doing this ....what can I say?.... it's only weird if it doesn't work |
Hammer - you seem to be having two issues, unless the first is somehow causing the second. When it does crank and you say it stalls does it seem like it is getting a full crank? If not I would say the issues are not related. I know my clutch switch is not good but like Dorag says once I get it to work it starts up ok.
I will note that before I figured out how to get the clutch switch to work sometimes I would release the pressure on the clutch ever so little and car would begin to start and then stall out. |
We had the relay fixed for a similar problem, but mine wasn't stalling out.

Id. Saybits batt related or the connections to the bat. Id try that beforeni go to alternator. A car still needs the bat and alt to run things in car if that becomes compromised it stalls... Id check the con ections to batt and starter, ground. Also maybe time to get a new bat if you didnt leave it in a tender durring storage
