Wifi OBD Transmitter & Pioneer 940BT
5 Attachment(s)
I have attached some photos of my Pioneer double din receiving data from a wireless device plugged into the OBD port ($30 - Ebay).
I wanted something to read error codes, the wifi device allows me to do this on my iphone. I can also link the iphone to the Pioneer and using an app called 'DashCommand' display OBD data on the Pioneer. Does loads of cool things as well as checking and clearing error codes, data logging, creating your own race tracks etc. So this is an OBD2 wifi transmitter, Pioneer 940BT, iPhone 4S on a Brodit mount. My car is RH drive by the way. |
Which adapter did you order? I just downloaded DashCommand.

Tell us more about this after you've had a few days with it. Is it useful and would you purchase it again?

Dang nice! I love it.

I got one of these:
This is the UK site but there are loads of these for sale. Would I get one again, definitely. You can unplug and put in any car, have the same set up here in my Civic Type R. Even if you just want a code reader, having it on your phone is great - can connect to the internet for more info on errors. You can use it just on the phone, the fact it also displays on my double din is a bonus. Haven't tried the race track yet, but you can select any road etc off google maps. |
I did similar setup with a ELM327 USB Interface OBDII cable from ebay and the software loaded onto my Pioneer DD head unit itself.
Was ok but grew tired of it and now just use the cable and my laptop when needed. But for those interested: Cable: Software: hobDrive - OBD-II trip computer for Windows Mobile, GPS devices and carputers ? hobDrive Hack the Pioneer head unit to allow quite a few added features which includes the OBDII hack via AVICnet. AVICnet 2.1 for AVIC F series, working OBDII! Updated 04/18/12 - Completed Mods/Themes - AVIC411.com  |

The new Pioneer units with the advanced app mode are much better. No jailbreaking and other apps to get a video output.
I just plug in OBD device and select the 'Dashcommand' app on the head unit. Big advantage now is you use the touch screen on the Pioneer to control the apps rather than the phone. |
This may just be the coolest thing I have ever seen
