Bumperettes on a 987

Do only Boxsters in the USA have bumperettes? I was looking at a new Boxster brochure, and the photos don't show the bumperettes, so I am assuming these are phots of cars in Europe.

IMHO, the back-end looks better without the bumperettes...cleaner...sleeker.

They are for the US/Canada market.

Tool Pants, why does North America require the bumperettes? Does not look like they would do much in a collision.

I think it's a NHTSA thing. I remember when the Lambo Countach was first imported here. They forced them to put the same "bumper dimples" on both the back AND front. Man they looked really tacky.

I actually like them on my car.....of course, I have not seen a pix without them either!

S_Pilot, you can see what the back end looks like without the bumperettes on Porsche's web site when you go to "build your own" or grab a Boxster brochure the next time your at the dealer. It's not a huge difference, just subtle and nice.

I just don't see how much crash protection you get from those little puffs!

When they are the same color as the car, they look a lot better too.

Here's the link to an article that give you some pretty compelling reasons NOT to remove the 987 bumperettes from someone who did.
