5mm spacer option

The new porscheusa.com site for the Boxster and Cayman list 5mm spacers as optional equipment. (I didn't check the Carrera -- maybe there too.) Anyone know why?

HI,

Wider Track, a little better sticking ability...

Happy Motoring!...Jim'99

SoCal, I ordered my 987S with the 5 mm spacers. I did this more from a visual standpoint, and to make it a little more unique. FYI, the Anniversary 986 came from the factory with the 5 mm spacers standard.

If anyone wants to know the numbers, they are:

Ordered with the car from the factory- Code# XRP $490 (includes the longer, anti-theft protection bolts too)

From Tequipment- Code # 000 044 500 09 (also includes the bolts). I don't know the costs.

Note, these can not be fitted on the Carrera Sport Wheel 19"

Bmussati:

Do you know why the 5mm spacers are not for use on the sport design rims? Are they different offsets?

Chris

Chris C Atlanta, I don't know for sure the exact reason. I don't think it is related to the offset, though, because the offset is the same as the 19" Carrera Classic Wheel (57 front and 46 rear). My guess is that it has more to do with the style and design of the Sport Design Wheels, they are very "open" near the centers, and possibly the wheel spacer would be exposed behind the wheel. Just a guess!

Are you referring to the Carrera S wheel or the Sport Design wheel?

bmussatti 10-19-2005 11:27 AM

Carl AMG:

I am referring to the Tequipment Book.

They state that the 5 mm wheel spacers are not compatible with the Sport Design Wheel (987 044 602 03).

The Carrera S Wheel is 987 044 602 05 and apparently compatible with the spacers.

There are tons of aftermarket spacers available made of the same or better materials at a fraction of the cost. Do a net search and you'll find plenty. Just make sure you get the right length replacement lug bolts when you move the wheels out.

bmussatti 10-19-2005 12:20 PM

...and make sure the longer lug bolts have an anti-theft mechanism!

True that. Excellent point bmussatti. You can buy the four anti-theft lugs at a dealership using your lug key code and get the rest with the spacers.

Question about wheel spacers:

Do they always stay attached to the car? What I mean is, when the wheel is removed (for any maintenance) does the spacer come off or stay attached?

Thanks.
