Convertible Top Covers

Does anyone know where to get a convertible top cover? Not a whole car cover, just something to cover the top and windows. I think Perfectlap posted a picture of one here several months ago on a black Carrera. How about for a 987?

Thanks!

I bought this one off ebay and it's a very nice cover ,especially for the price ($49 - $59 depending on who bids). It fit's all years.

I got one from him too. I ordered the "Sunbrella" material. Really nice stuff and well made. If you email him you can pretty much specify anything you want. I got the elastic around the door handles too.

Thanks Tommy986 and MJW930. I have seen those on E-bay. Will he make other colors? How long does it take to puy on? What keeps it from being stollen?

I think you can get custom colors and materials working with him directly. I have no idea on the lead time. With the ones he sells on ebay I got mine 3 days after the auction ended.

It's held on by velcro straps around the wipers and door handles as well as 3 tabs that go under the rear trunk cover. These tabs have a raised end that prevents them from being pulled out. I suppose, with enough force, they could be pulled out or simply cut off. If you are worried about the cover being stolen write your tag number on it in BIG letters with a Sharpie. It might make them think twice (probably not :( )

The reality is if they want it they will get it. If you have a metal gromet sewn in you could run a cable into the trunk. FWIW I would rather them take it vs. the type of damage they WILL do trying to remove it if it's cabled on.

Hi,

I got one from him on eBay about 6 mos. ago. It's very well made, but as mentioned, isn't theft proof. One thing in your favor is that it is custom made for the Boxster which could discourage some would-be thieves with thoughts of using it on their cars, 'course, there's always eBay.

Like I said, have had mine for 6 mos. - never put it on once - great investment for me...;)

Happy Motoring!...Jim'99

I have two.
One in the sunbrella beige material and a black one now.
The black one has the velcro which I'm not crazy about, can cause minor
micro marring of the paint above the door handle. But nothing some 3M fine cut can get out. The black is also easier to put on because its stiffer, the Sunbrella is more like making your bed. But its the difference between two minutes and one minute to put on.

By the way, both have faded considerably in less than one year of outdoor parking. Much better to spend $40 than $800 on a new top. Not to mention the harmful effects of the Sun on your leather and dash interior. Keeps my cat off the car as well. He was really drawn to the canvas material for some reason.

Perfectlap:

I tried PM you, but your mailbox is full, and is not accepting new messages. Where did you purchase your Top Cover? Thanks!

Many thanks. The Georgia pines are no friend to convertible tops...the sun can be brutal here too.

I e-mailed this guy, and he responded very quickly with the following:

"I have 3 cockpit covers for the Boxster, one in nylon tan, one in Block-it 300 (car cover material) taupe and another in silver polyester urethane fabric. The first two are highly water repellent and breathable and the silver is water proof non-breathable.
each cover is $60 including USPS priority w/insurance and tracking.
I accept check, money order and paypal.
here are 3 pictures of fabric colors in 3 different cars.

thanks for your email,
manny"

Yeah...I got the same reply from him. I asked if he could use alternative fabrics....though the Block-it should be o-k for my needs.

I am bumping this old thread up again to help some new members and new 987 owners find a conv. top cover. :)

Perfectlap 11-10-2006 10:38 AM

That's the best $60 you will ever spend. That guy should write me a commission check!
