Tail Light Bulbs

Has anyone changed their taillight bulbs? If not, you should at least look at them. Reach inside the trunk and unscrew the plastic nuts that hold the trunk felt panel and remove it. Then push down on the tab that holds the bulb assembly (brake, turn back-up and parking) in. Pull it out and look just how cheap that set-up is.

My 5 year old could do a better job at engineering that assembly!!:troll:

They may be made of poor quality materials and be of questionable design philosophy, but since when is anything from Porsche cheap?
BTW, I have some racer tape holding the contact plate in place in the bulb assembly on my passenger side taillight.

That's what happened to mine when I thought I had a bulb burned out. I pulled it apart and the metal strip came apart. The metal assembly isn't even soldered to the plastic backing, it's simply pushed into slots with a serrated edge, not what you would think from Porsche.

I find it to be a better design than the Japanese - most of their tail light assemblies need to come out before you can change a bulb.

Material seems cheap but as long as the bulbs work.

All the connectors are weird in these things, regular Rubiks cubes to figure out & separate. I just took apart the tail light last night in the dark though and thought "how refreshing" it just popped right out.

The caveat of course was none on one side were working. Guess I know where to look now.
