Looking to subscribe to a good Porsche magazine, any ideas?

I was wondering if there was a nice Porsche magazine out there that would give attention to the Boxster?
If anyone has any suggestions for some good reading, it would be appreciated.

Panorama is useful. They had a series on transplanting a 3.4L into a first gen Boxster last year. It is free with a PCA membership along with a 10% discount at your Porsche dealer parts dept. :) Own a Porsche? Join the Club!

Also Excellence magazine is good.

Great D.I.Y. articles .

I like Excellence Magazine

Mark_T 09-14-2012 09:28 PM

So Johnny... you find the pages get stuck together after those DIY jobs?

Only when it gets icy in Winnipeg !

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'll check those out.

Join PCA like Topless said. I agree also with Excellence. Another one is GT Porsche. Pricey for a US subscription but you can get it on the iPad for less. They have a couple of Boxsters in their long term test fleet.

Excellence +2

schnellman 09-15-2012 01:35 PM

I prefer Christophorus.

thstone 09-15-2012 03:03 PM

Excellence is by far the best.

I heard they had to give her a ride in a YELLOW Boxster... Go figure.

NoGaBiker 09-17-2012 04:38 PM

Funny stuff, Jager! :)

Excellence is not just a great Porsche magazine, it's one of the best American car magazines period. What they lack in instrumented testing they make up for in everything else. And to be honest, with all cars performing so amazingly well today, wasting an article telling me if one got to 60mph a tenth faster than another one is just cut-and-paste journalism.

Mark_T 09-17-2012 04:49 PM

Agreed. I always thought those "9mm vs 45" articles were just stupid. Seems no matter what magazine you buy, it's always that type of useless subjective tripe they're filled with. Excellence is indeed a cut above. I rarely see anything of interest in Panorama. Wish I could opt out in exchange for a cheaper membership rate.

Totally agree.. I just received the November issue of Excellence magazine in the mail, there is a great article on a 2003 S fitted with a 1955 550 Spyder body. Some of my Michigan gear-head home boys got together and created quite a machine.

Christophorus has a FREE ipad app that is very well done.

mcomet 09-17-2012 07:17 PM

Yes the free iPAD app for Christophorus is awesome, if not a little bit of a Porsche commercial, it still is fun to read and view in the interactive foramt.

rene525d 09-17-2012 10:05 PM

I like Christophorus . It is free with my porsche membership. August-September issue has several pages dedicated to the new boxster.

One Brit mag I find very interesting is 911 & Porsche World. Pricey but lots of good stuff and you get insight from the continent that you normally don't get here. GT Porsche, also from the Brits, is good too. I do not subscribe but find them in the rack at Barnes & Noble from time to time. You can check them out and see if they have articles of interest for you before you purchase.

PANO is good from PCA along with the membership. Excellence is one I would not be without so now you have some choices.

Excellence Mag is boring and redundant

Thanks, Mcomet for the heads up on the IPAD app. It's great.

I am starting to feel that way also. Just got the November issue today, which made me realize I missed another issue last time. Over the last year I have not received 4 issues. Excellence doesn't respond to E-mails so I have to call again to get the old issue I missed. :( this will probably be my last subscription.

So you're one of those guys everyone see's sipping his coffee by the magazine rack and reading everything for free !

mistermac99 09-18-2012 05:40 PM

Thanks for the advice.
I ordered the free issue of Excellence to see if I like it.
Probably gonna get the subscription for $25.00.
Seems like they were around $9.00 per issue at the book store. Yikes.

Why would "missing 4 issues this year" make you "start to feel that Excellence is boring and redundant?" Wouldn't the absence of a third of the issues actually alleviate some of the boredom and redundancy?

I find our client care meetings at work boring and redundant (and I own the company!), and I SURE AS HELL wouldn't be complaining if they shaved them down by one-third. ;)
