Ok....you may have read my post last week about overheating my 00' boster S. Long story short, out of coolant, motor overheated, oil pressure light came on for brief second. Towed the car to my local Porsche specialist. They said I had two bad fan resistors, changed the oil and all seemed fine. Then this morning, I accelerated away from a stop light, big cloud of smoke, and check engine light came on. I immediately shut it down, coasted to a parking lot and parked it. Check the oil and it doesn't look whitish....but doesn't look clean either. Smells of antifreeze.
Now I know the obvious issue is probably a blown head gasket:( ! I guess my next question is.....what other possibilities? How difficult of a job for a DIY guy that has rebuilt many old motors. How much am I looking at to have shop do the work? I know it is $$$, just trying to see how many $$$ signs I need. Thanks as always, this group is great! Scott |
If it turns out to be a HG and you have successfully done them in other cars, then with the aid of a Bentley book I don't see why you could not do it if you take your time and get help if you need it. However, if the head is cracked, well that's another issue completely.

hmmmm cracked head....forgot about that...one more worry. This day just keep getting better. Thanks for reminding me of that. How about anything else to worry about?

warped head/block
scoring cracked block (less likely) main bearing damage (from loss of oil pressure) In reality, you probably only killed the headgaskets, but there is always the possibility of further damage. Nick |
