Got her first service since taking ownership earlier in the year. 100,000km. Spark plugs, fuel injection system clean, air filter, etc. They said it was quite dirty and we should notice better fuel economy and performance.

Installed new (to me) clear taillights. I'm amazed at how much they update the car. I picked them up from one of the wonderful members off this forum.

Road Trip - Raleigh NC onto the Blue Ridge Parkway near Boone NC. Headed down to Asheville NC. Hiked a few short trails along the way and made a side trip driving down 226a and back up 226.

Yesterday, she went in to the Box doctor and had her very first check-up! 11 years old, and finally past 15k miles. She has a clean bill of health.

A few items.......

The muffler was not secured from previous owner. New cat brackets and lower bracket installed. Wheels pulled and inside drums cleaned (filthy and likely the first time ever done) what an improvement! The brake coolers (rubber scoops) were also missing and new ones installed. New battery also as old one was getting weak and had a bad cell.

Thanks for your help with all of the above Tim!

Changed the oil and filter, cut open said filter for a particle check (all clean), checked and topped up all fluids, checked brakes and then went for a drive. All in preparation for putting her to bed this coming weekend for hibernation. The last few days have been quite nice but winter is coming, as it always does.

Installed the upgraded 12V accessory lighter and replaced door panel lights with LEDs. Now my GPS plug won't fall out at inopportune times. Next is the dome light with an LED.

just got back from another 1900 mile drive
NJ to FLA and back, 6 days (4 driving)
A little concerned about hwy 95 being closed due to flooding in SC.
I camped in SC to break up the drive
Came back yesterday, 600+ miles. Took me 10 hours. Hit that crappy Washington DC traffic.
Car ran without issues. Had to top off about a cup of coolant but that's it.

Need to do an oil change and let her rest for awhile

Washed it in the rain. Folks may think I'm nuts but anything stuck to the finish comes off much more easily after soaking in the rain and it is mainly self rinsing. The only down side is water spots after it dries as I don't have a garage to pull into to dry it (too poor). I've also waxed it while it is wet and that also works pretty darned well. It cost me a wet ball cap, t-shirt and shorts.

Pulled it out of the garage, drove it around the neighborhood a bit, did a bunch of yardwork (tiny garage = gotta pull the car out to get to things), pulled it back in the garage. Exciting day for the 986, I tell ya.

I also ordered a new Gummi-Pfledge stick, a CTEK maintainer with cigarette lighter adapter, some desiccant packs, wheel chocks, and Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer in preparation for it's upcoming long sleep...

I connected the trickle charger and tucked it in for the winter. Will check up on it once in a while, though.

No issues with tires developing a flat spot after a whole winter?

I've bypassed it, yes. I gutted it, and replaced it with a MiniDSP signal processor. This gives me the ability to control crossovers on all speakers and it also has a 31 band EQ per channel.
I have a temporary external amp hooked up, and it's already leagues better than the original.
