If you can, there should be a period in your life when you own a 911. It's the iconic model that established the company, and it continues to evolve and be improved with each iteration.
Is it better than a Boxster? It doesn't matter, but it's accurate to say that it's different than a Boxster. For that reason, taste...savor.....and enjoy a 911. What it has to offer will feed your soul.

I'll move up to a rear motor Pcar one day. But not a 996 from the early 2000's. Build quality is not up to my standards.
I want the 991, which means waiting another 5+ years.

Btw, save the educational money before you buy another Porsche. College tuition is skyrocketing and you still have some time value of money on your side.

IMO If it doesn't matter than you're buying the car for the wrong reason.

For me, the experience of owning different kinds of cars has been one of life's pleasures. That, in itself, has been reason enough for me to own over 40 different cars. It has never been a "contest" between marques or models, rather, it's been enjoying how each car company interprets the automobile. Some do it better than others, obviously, but I've always found it fun to try something different.

Good advise Randall, I already have college savings accounts for both my girls Started them as soon as I got their SS numbers after they were born So I have room to wiggle a bit with another Porsche Am I rich? No... but I plan well, which allows me to look at another car
Now I need to think about keeping the Boxster and adding a late model 911... But they are pretty expensive now... I wish there were solid cars available in the $15k Range. If I were to keep the Boxster I wouldn’t have that $ to put towards a 911... so my budget gets cut...

Life is short, get what you want. Someday I will probably own a nice clean 911SC because that was the iconic Porsche when I got out of school. One of my professors had one and it was the coolest car (now he drives a Boxster). I have also considered a 2004 GT3 but it's more than I want to spend on a weekend toy right now. For pure driving joy it is still hard to beat a Boxster.

I'm with you on the variety, in my life I've driven so many cars, trade ins made it so I could sample. I have always gone forward in handling with each acquisition, it's what I love most about all Boxsters. I do understand what you mean though, I just drove my 124 spyder and even though it feels so foreign to modern machines it's still a connection back to days I remember with joy.
