Sticky Throttle

a month in with a 2002 S and the only complaint so far is a slightly sticky throttle. Doesn't bother me in 3 or higher gears but makes 1st and second a little tricky. I'm getting used to it but would like some tips on where to address this problem. It's like the cable has stretched and it hangs up just a little as the pedal is depressed.

I believe all boxsters from 00 or 01 are electronic throttle body. does not have cable.
most likely cause (without anything being broken) is that the throttle body needs cleaning.

Thanks I'll look into that. Although I've wrenched every car, truck and motorcycle I've ever had, I'm a little intimidated with this one. Just getting to the engine seems complicated. I need to get me some manuals any bible that you suggest?

Cleaning the T/B is the 1st thing you should do, Porsche eliminated throttle cables in 2000. The Bentley publishers manual is a good start. With your experience just remove the top engine cover & you will see the T/B right there, remove intake tube & clean with Brake cleaner. You can hold the throttle open with your fingers & scrub inside with a clean rag. This does wonders for your idle speed.

Thanks, that is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I appreciate the tips.

You are welcome. You can do a better job if you remove the T/B, just be sure you have a good QUALITY 5mm hex/allen bit to do that. There is a seal but I have reused mine many times.

Pelican Parts, Wayne has a good handbook for your Boxster and it's cheaper than a Bently manual. Covers just about all the basic stuff and more.
