Heat Shield inside rear trunk ?
 

So I have all the rear trunk material out for my coolant reservoir replacement and it got me thinking. Would it do any good to line the inside of the trunk with any of the sound deadening/heat shield materials like Dynamat? It seems like the aluminum part should be facing the heat source, so I'm doubting it would be effective.

Anyone tried it and measured a temp difference?

Yes, it works! I not only lined the trunk but covered all the engine access panels and firewall as well. Really made an improvement in cabin noise.

But now your pizza is going to get cold on the drive home!

It made the engine noise louder? that's the only way I could see an improvement...

The only downside i can see is that you are adding a lot of weight to the car, thus making it slower and heavier. As i have dynomated quite a few cars in the past, i definitely will not be doing it to the Boxster. I do not find the in cabin noise that terrible for a convertible. My mom drives an eclipse convertible, and that is a noisy vehicle!

The noise isn't the issue for me, its the heat. Last trip I made this summer, any metal items in the trunk got so hot I couldn't pick them up.

You said you are replacing the coolant tank. Was your coolant tank leaking last summer? (Did you have to top off coolant regularly?)
My old tank leaked and back then, my trunk was definitely hotter.
I changed my coolant tank last month and it is not as hot.

BTW, be sure to check for the coolant in the liner.
In my case, there was at least a pint of coolant soaked in the bottom liner. :eek:
