How much would you pay for this hardtop?

I'm thinking of low balling at $200. His asking price is what pristine HTs go for.

Find out how much someone would charge you to have it painted and subtract that from the cost, or just cut it about in half and offer him $400. Fertilizer? How does one manage that? Maybe you should also check and make sure it's not deformed. Maybe he left it sitting just like it is now in that shed and gravity has beaten up on it, too.

Assuming that it only needs paint, I would go $500, but no higher. I'd actually rather save the money toward a Zeintop.

From what I have seen they typically go for $1000 for a good one. If it was myself I would look for one in good condition. That one looks like it needs work. This depends on your financial situation and whether you want to work on it. If you think you could fix it, then u could probably get it for what you suggested. Good luck!

I am just curious, why would one want a hard top? I think the soft top looks much better.

I live in Tampa and I use my hardtop from June thru Sept. Just too damn hot to have the top down. Also, notice this guy is in Key Largo. Salt spray and nsun would tear up a top in no time down there with a few summers.

See Ryan post above. Here in Florida, our top down season is in sync with the Southern hemisphere, top down October - April, top up May- September. It would be nice to have the option of putting the hard top on in the spring and leave it on through the fall.

Yup, Its a little roomier with it on, much cooler with the air on, and definitely keeps the top protected from the extreme sun and daily afternoon showers.

At $4k plus shipping from south Africa, though, I think I'll pass.

Used condition tops normally go between $900-1600, more on whether the color matches you car and how close it is to you than the actual condition. I think a $400 offer would be fair, $200 is way too low, even if you have to repair and repaint it. The seals and glass alone are worth $500. Best of luck!

It sucks that it has some paint damage but honestly, I think the top will sell for pretty close to his asking price. the lowest would be around $700. Not everyone is looking for a pristine condition top. I live in Chicago and purchased a hard top for the brutal Chicago winters. I didnt really care what the condition of the paint was since it would probably be under a few inches of snow most of the time. I also wanted the larger glass rear window and defog. life saver when it is 10 below zero others may just want the hard top to participate in autocross events so dont care about aesthetics.

You can offer $500 or less but the seller will most likely decline. You are also competing against potential buyers that either have painting capabilities or can have it done really cheap so they would not value the repair at $450.

It comes down to how bad you want a hard top. Hard tops in my area pop up once every 6 months and go quickly.

Around here it would cost between $500 and $600 to have it painted. So I'd offer about that amount and no more since $1k to $1200 is the typical price range.

Thanks all. I'll admit it, I'm a cheap b@stard and I don't really need the top, but if I got it cheap I could prep it myself and then just have it shot for not too much. I'll wait and see how long its advertised and if its still there in a couple of weeks, I''l offer maybe $300 and see what his reaction is.

Honestly, I wouldn't go that low. It may not be worth 900, but it's not worth a third of that, either. Offer them 4 and be willing to go to 5 or 6, and if they really want it gone if no one else makes them higher offers, they'll likely let it go. Cheap bastid or not, you'd still be getting a good deal on it and can rejuvinate it with the money saved. I'd take a look at it in person, though. They took a closeup of that one big scuff, but I saw more on the bottom edge in the far away picture, so you need to see just how many spots are in bad shape and how much work is needed.
