ceramic brake pads

Anyone tried the ceramic brake pads on their boxster or 996. Any pluses or minues that you know of? I have read or heard that the dust from them is not as offensive and easier to clean off.

what dust? virtually none. what is there washes right off.

i'm running Akebono ceramics.

they let out a little squeak when cold for the first 100 miles then nothing.

a little softer feeling than regular pads, but after a while you don't notice it.

I have used several sets of EBC Redstuff ceramic pads. There is virtually no dust, grab much better, and don't fade as easily as the stock pads. I didn't find any downside at all.

Oh wait, the only downside is that the break-in period for EBC pads can be up to 200 miles and they might squeal a bit during break-in but the squeal goes away completely thereafter.

I just installed some EBC red pads, so I'm hoping for reduced clean-up!

I had to force and accelerated break-in of around 100 miles, since I had an autocross Sunday. I haven't heard any squealing yet, and I didn't even install the factory anti-squeal "pads".

I am glad to hear these have less dust. I don't know what pads are on mine now, but after just a few miles through town my wheels look dirty. I will go this route when they need replaced, or sooner.

Sounds like I will be watching for a deal on some for my next brake job. thanks for the input

Reviving an older thread...

So thstone, you still recommend these pads? I mostly do street driving (in spirited fashion) but have also done a little track (where I'm definitely still in the beginner category!). Reading other threads that talked about ceramic pads (mostly about Akebonos), I got the impression they had a different 'feel' to them. Based on your 2012 comments, I gather you either didn't notice that, or maybe preferred it?

Check out this site for clearance brakes.... myself and other porsche friends all ordered them from here... can't beat the price.... and plus if your from the US (Im in Canada) shipping will be dirt cheap for you. I believe this was first posted by Steve in my other post...

I used the PowerStop ceramics I got on Amazon
Virtually no dust, no squeal. not even when I first put the, on
They are on my DD and work great for street driving. I have used them on the track and they performed well, no fade.

Probably cant beat them for $50 per axle
