Good Deal or Not? Used NHP Muffler
I just bought a NHP muffler lightly used for $180.00. The only thing wrong with it, is the the small metal tab that hold the two pipes broke at one of the welds. I noticed this was common thing for the NHP's.

What is your goal? If you wanted the car to be meaner sounding and can effect the repair for a reasonable sum then IMO, $180.00 is a score. If you keep the old unit you can always go back if you find the resonance to be harsh and one would think the NHP will always be worth at least a C note so I'd say you did fine.

that is crazy cheap! I paid 500 for mine used. Even if it had no performance gain (it does) it is worth it for the weight you save over the stock muffler alone.

Bought mine new and noticed a bit of performance improvement. I like it and won't change back. Driving easy it's quiet ... drive it spirited ... nice sound!
I'm happy with mine ... :cheers::cheers: |
the pipe-separator-weld broke on mine too.
i think my cats are crap and will be popping for the rest of the system in a couple weeks :( :) |
Just installed it this afternoon. A co-worker knew a welder so I got the broken bracket re-welded and added a second one like the newer NHP version (on the bottom). I don't have jacks but was able to park the car on ramps in the driveway (which has an incline) which gave me plenty of room. I took off the bumper just to get extra space. Once I took off the old muffler, I took off the bolts and used them to bolt up the NHP. I'm a total novice so don't be afraid to try it yourself:dance:.
There is a huge weight difference between the stock muffler and the NHP. I only got to go on a quick drive once I had it in, but it seemed as quiet as the stock one during normal driving and a little more growl when I upped it. We'll see it goes, and I hope I had everything clamped down tight so no exhaust leaks. PS - the welder was impressed with the NHP muffler and said there's at least 120.00 worth of stainless steel used in it. |
