FNG well not really.
I am thinking of getting another porche. And I need some advice. I have been looking at the boxster for a while and I think it is time to get rid of the X5 4.4 sport(bad ass) and go back to the holy S#^T this thing rocks stock and o yah better gas mileage. Will all cars there are years that you just need to stay away from. Well I need to know. Any suggestions?

Gee I thought for a moment I was on the forum for stand up comics or improv!
To be serious I have a 2001 Boxster base and so far so good. :):):) |
You know you all just are to cool.
PS. I like the red wood myself. |
If we are going to do comedy I'm surprised you guys overlooked the "short shaft" thread, it's gold Jerry!

Must be an inside joke as it flew right over my head????
I choose the 2001 Boxster S (3.2l) because Jake Raby (Engine Builder) says it has nice thick cylinder walls and too me seems like it would there fore be more robust. There was also some slipping cylinder sleeves or something like that on a limited number of MY98's if I recall correctly. You can avoid the whole IMS issue by buying MY09 and above since they removed that feature from the engine by then. If you like power you should get the S, else you'll have S envy forever and end up buying all sorts of expensive performance enhancing gadgets for minimal gain. If I had to do it again I'd buy the same car, but you could also buy an IMS fatality car for cheap and put a 3.4l or 3.6l in it and go like a flaming bat out of hell. |
Not true about IMS issues going away in 2005! Be careful!
|
The IMS issue didn't "go away" until MY2009 when the IMS was designed out of the new engine. All 1997-2008 Boxster engines have some type of IMS bearing.

Keep the bad ass X5 and give it a full on "bling and rice" for that holy S#^T this thing is rocking bad ass. Stay away from Porsche, not bad ass enough.

Ooops on the IMS MY05, I corrected my post for posterity to MY09+ with no IMS anymore. Too many numbers jumbling around in my head.....time to go for a top down and clear the deck. |
