My 3 4 legged mouse hunters will be roaming the garage at random this fall and
winter on patrol. I used traps last winter and got alot of them but the damage had

On the 986 open your frunk (front trunk) and stand at the front of the vehicle. Its up in the left hand
far corner right below the winshield (passenger side), right against the firewall. Black plastic cover.
Thats the cover of the HVAC. They make one with charcoal in it that absorbs odor.

Yes, I had the same problem a couple of years ago (Boxster, Lexus, and Avalon) - two separate garages. I now liberally throw month balls on my garage floor and corners and use one of those mouse repellers you plug into the wall. So far so good (though I still check my filters monthly during the winter months.

Damn! :eek: Is that fiber glass insulation? mine is so dirty you cant see sunlight thru it. :(

that is so gross that I just went out on to the internet and found a replacement filter (WIX) at O'Reillys and will be picking it up tomorrow and installing. I have no clue what mine looks like, but not taking any chances!

Yeah, mice will get into everything. I change my cabin air filter at least once a year and use the charcoal version to cut down on the diesel fume smell on the highway.

The moth balls help alot. I did alot of different stuff after the fact...cats, moth balls, traps. It
was all out war. And I got off EASY. All I had to endure was the foul smell when I'd put the vent
on. Do you realize how expensive this could get if they decided to just start chewing on wiring
!?!!!? I consider myself likely. Will never happen again. Was my own little version
of the movie 'Mouse Hunt'.

To say I was in shock when I pulled the thing out is an understatement. Was like a horror
movie. Yes, that is insulation btw. :mad:

Sadly I have a detached garage, so the cats can't patrol there. Maybe I need to build a Cat-walk between the buildings. ( rimshot )

My Indy told me all you have to do is put the cats in there for a couple days for a few hours now and then. Once the mice get their scent, they immediately start looking for a new place to live. The gig is up.

Just a word of advice, though I'm certain it doesn't need mentioning. If your cats are like mine, you'll wanna cover your car. Or you end up with this:

Good thing i saw this thread! Went out to check on mine after ordering one. It was actually not terrible but not great...but someone had written on it 3/2009 so assuming last time it was changed! Hell i didnt even know the car had one! Thanks!!

There were the same signs of mice in our Boxster too. We also had a small nest under the arm rest bin where the parking brake is adjusted.

Well good luck to that :) Hoping you would have a cleaner cabin filter. Happened to mine as well, but not as dirty/grose like that.

I find the polland filter very useful when the top is down most times, the german do have a sense of humor?

Once a mouse has been there, they (or their friends and relatives) will be back. I got 1/4" welded wire cut to the filter shape and inserted it on top of the filter which was almost eaten through twice. Unless the rodents have little cutting torches, I should be OK.

I had the same thing happen. Since then, I now try to "mouse-proof" the car and garage. It seemed to work last year. I use peppermint oil in the car at places mice might frequent (supposedly mice hate peppermint oil and it doesn't smell bad). I put down several glue traps and my exterminator sprays bobcat urine in appropriae places. When he was spraying the first time, we saw several mice "getting the hell out of Dodge".
