is this an indication my Voltage reg. and Alt. are going bad?

Recently replaced the A/O sep and MAF.

upon hooking up the battery and getting everything re-set, took it for a couple drives getting the DME to re-learn and re-set i notice there is still a slight quiver with the idle, and thought maybe i was dealing with a vac leak , but upon closer evaluation, i see there is a very slight quiver in the dome and door lights too.

My first thought was the battery ground or connections- check, this is good.
next i checked the voltage across the battery while running at it is like 17-18v!!

So is it the VR, Alt, or both? this seems high. My 914 is 16v, and doing some research on pelican site, they indicate that a V of 17-18 would indicate a voltage regulator. That is internal, so am i stuck with replacing the whole thing?

The voltage regulator can be swapped out with a new one, look at a VW dealer as they use the same Bosch part number and are about 1/3 the price of one from Porsche (if you can get them to sell you one as they usually try to sell you an altenator).
