Fifty Feet or Fifty Seconds

After years of intense calculations, I finally concluded that black wheels only stay clean and shiny for about fifty feet or fifty seconds of driving - whichever comes first . :(

Having a black Box it is indeed fortunate that they built a carwash(wand type) one block from me or else I would have had to move next to one. I agree black is a b---- to keep clean.

You're not kidding Fifty feet or Fifty Seconds......

I had a black car.... once. That was enough. I'm way too anal to wash a car daily; that's about what needs to be done when you own a black vehicle, at least in my world. That, or seal it in a plastic bag when you're done cleaning it and not drive it.

I lost my mind seeing dust visible on the finish in under an hour after doing a complete detail and polish job.

Having ranted, I do agree that there's not much cooler looking than a freshly detailed black vehicle, I just can't justify spending the $$ on medication putting up with the upkeep. :D

Priorities

I have a black Subaru Impreza; it gets run through the car wash about once a month. My Midnight Blue Boxster gets washed by hand once a week.

Don't hit your brakes... They will stay clean much longer.

My wheels don't seem to get dirty that quick, my white car being
Dirty bugs me Way before my black wheels

No problem keeping my tires clean, but I never drive on anything but pavement.

The Glacier White Box is another story...I wash it after every single drive. I think my neighbors think I'm obsessed. Rightly so. :D

Question---Dust settles on my black boxster @ 0 mph in the gararge, why does it NOT come off @ 60 mph when I drive it ?????

particlewave 06-03-2012 07:09 AM

I'll give you a hint; its one of the four fundamental forces. :D

I never use the brakes . But they still get dirty way too soon . :( I'm thinking of using Saran Wrap on them .

My black wheels seem to stay fairly clean.

I'll ask my mother if she's willing to part with the plastic wrappers on the lamp shades (plastic runner on the rugs are too thick) so you don't have to fool around with Saran wrap (here we go again...).

Seriously, I put a set of Porterfield R4-S pads on my wife's MB E320 and they throw very little dust and don't eat up rotors -- I'll get a set of these for the Box when the time comes. I have about 56K miles on the stock pads and they still have a lot of lining remaining although the rotors have a noticeable lip around the edge -- looks like the rotors are wearing faster than the pads.

Regards,
paul...

Just paint them flat black, then you'll never need to clean them again.

violametallic-S- 06-04-2012 07:51 PM

Also depends what type of tire shine you use. Waxing the wheels helps the dirt bounce off, thus keeping wheels clean for a longer period of time.
