Painted bumperettes

I took off the black, rubber, bumperettes? I painted them with primer and I was goo g to paint them, but I moved the rubber arou d to see if the primer would crack- and it did. Anyone that painted these, did you just paint the rubber- or what?

I called the dealer and they claim models that had optional painted bumperettes, they were not rubber. And.... They claim the 986 never had painted bumperettes as an option.

Give me some info please!

Thanks!

There are special paints and paint additives used on rubber or plastic parts that allow the paint to flex. I recommend going to an automotive paint store and get their recommendation on the latest available products.

Paint attitives

I was told that flex agents and adhesion promoters were only for plastic, not rubber.

I used ppg k38 primer, and it cracked.

Painted mine with pretty good results. You need to sand the texture off them, wipe them down real good, hit them with some adhesion promoter, some flexible primer, then finish and clear coats. See my thread here: http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/30418-4-hours-$50-later.html

I had mine painted locally. It does take some special prep to do it right. Well worth it though.

Or you could paint the rest of the car to match the bumperettes

Had mine done by local body shop. $150 and I just had to give them my credit card.

So far no problems and it is a daily driver.

Actually..... I am going to do just that.

I am currently painting my car. I ran out of paint and the paint shop can't reproduce speed yellow to save their ass. So, I told them to make me all new paint free of charge and now I have to repaint the whole car next weekend!

This situation is a joke. The best part is how they are arguing the color is speed yellow, although it looks nothing like the first batch, even after 3 tries!
