headliner is flapping

Another issue I've been having with my top relates to where the headliner comes down by the windows. It is loose, and there is an elastic band with a hook on the end that is hanging loose. I presume that should attach somewhere? They are undone on both sides, and the hook on the driver side is broken. Where do I reconnect them?

They stretch and attach back under the clamshell. Put it in service position and take a look.

I have 2 that come off somewhat regularly. I agree it is probably from the stretching.

The broken one is probably a lost cause and will need to be replaced, but the other one will go back where it belongs with some coaxing. It hooks around the silver rod that runs east/west well down into the workings. It's really the only thing down there that is the right size to match the radius of that hook. It is supposed to be on the inboard side of that rod, with the hook coming from the back to the front of the car.

I connected an alligator clip to the end of a dowel to make it possible to keep it in the correct position and hook it around that rod.

I wish i could do a better job of describing it all.

Great info, thanks. I was able to reconnect the one that wasn't broken. Not sure what I'll do about the broken one, as replacing it would likely require some sewing skills. Probably I will just try to ignore it :)

Bumping this to the top. Anyone have a better description of where these clip to? Both of mine are now uncooked and I've checked, cant seem to figure out where these clip to.

I think one or both of mine are unhooked as well, I saw something like that floating around back there last time I was looking.

I have never hooked mine back up because I could not see any obvious spot to do so. So if someone has really good camera skills I would like to vote for them posting this information as well! And thanks in advance for doing so!!!

I'll put in my request for more information as well. This has been driving me crazy for more than a year and lengthy attempts to remedy the issue have been unsuccessful.

This is exactly what I needed! Thank you.

My right side keeps coming off. I use the left as reference to attach but it is almost impossible to manipulate the hook back into place. I fabricated a coat hanger with hook ends but man this is one of those spots

BRAN 12-20-2017 04:25 AM

My right hook came off, too.
Tried to look it up in the Bentley manual, but could not find anything.
So a modded coat hanger might be the tool...
Are there any pics of the attachment spot out there?
