Hi there,

Do you guys think its worth trying this out? Its not that expensive to try. Im after a bit deeper sound and I think much nicer looking.

You should do a search on the forum for Charlie Chan muffler .

Is that the exhaust, discussed a while back, that had one of the the tips welded 1/4" higher than the other?

IIRC, each one had to be cut and re welded or some such, else wise the back of the car looked like you just installed an exhaust you got of ebay.

The main problem with aftermarket Boxster exhausts has always been a ghastly harmonic droning effect inside the car at typical highway speeds. Porsche sport exhausts for the 986 addressed the problem by adding small diameter muffler bypass pipes with some kind of vacuum-assisted valve opening mechanism. It avoids the drone, but is way expensive.

A while back, some folks were adding small bypass pipes to stock mufflers with some success, but you have to be pretty handy with a welder to do that, or know someone who is.

I have that same exhaust in my car now. It's super light, so u would definitely lose some good pounds. it does improve sound but not as loud as I'd like ( I do have the evo intake and my car is desnorkled). Which is why I'm picking up a used GHL next weekend. I didn't notice any drone with the exhaust. If you're interested, pm me and I will let it go cheap!

I don't get the tip angle on those mufflers. When I put my system together I found that the tubes to the tips need to angle down and then a 2nd set of bends was needed to make the tips horizontal and at the right height, otherwise they would be pointing downward.

I just installed the same exhaust (see my other posts) and the exhaust has no drone at all

I have a similar styled exhaust, no drone problems great sound and noticed power gain, installing headers this week, & had computer remapped, no complaints.
