Boxster Trivia

Does anyone know what the "S" signifies on the Boxster S model ?

aclark133 05-01-2012 11:46 AM

Does anyone know what the "V" means on cadillac CTS-V? I read an article on what all those fancy letters mean, boiled down to not much

Burg Boxster 05-01-2012 11:50 AM

S = Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

;)

Highlow 05-01-2012 12:07 PM

S = Sport

10 character bs

ProjectM96 05-01-2012 12:15 PM

I have read that it means Special in an article years ago. But I have already heard it referenced as Sport.

This is like those old tootsie roll lolly pop commercials. The world may never know.

Porsche has used "S" for a long time to signifiy a higher performance model.

Turbo S, Carrera S etc. I don't know if it stands for a specific word.

2003S 05-01-2012 12:45 PM

Thought it always stood for "Super", or in German, "Super".

Stroked & Blown 05-01-2012 12:58 PM

Schnell, perhaps?

jdiba 05-01-2012 01:05 PM

In your case JD it stands for SSSSssssexxxxyyyyyyyy. :cool:

In my case its my girlfriend telling me I'm Selfish.

Jaxonalden 05-01-2012 01:54 PM

Since the Boxster is already a sports car...maybe it stands for Sportier?

landrovered 05-01-2012 04:20 PM

It stands for... superschnellesportwagenmitgrößerenmotor!

BoxsterSteve 05-01-2012 04:59 PM

As zis iz a cherman car, ja, ze S stands for "Schport"

Johnny Danger 05-01-2012 05:20 PM

I'm still awaiting official word from Zuffenhausen .

Ghostrider 310 05-01-2012 05:23 PM

Yeah well while you have Col Klink's cousin on the blower ask him where that piece of leipzig test rack they promised to send about two years ago is.

jmatta 05-01-2012 06:25 PM

You're right...I forgot all about that. Now I'm pissed!

I've always understood the "S" signified Sport on the later cars, but meant Super in the 356 era.

Jager 05-01-2012 06:56 PM

For 911s:

E-Einspritzung (fuel injection)
R- Rennsport (some model years)
R-Race (some model years)
RS-Race Sport
L-Luxury
SC-Super Carrera
S-Sport

S = Spezial (noun),
such as special addition, individual, of a distinct kind.

mmmm, sounds like JD is ruminating about himself again.....

I received some spurious information from Porsche's public relations department today regarding the origins of the "S" designation in the boxster line-up. According to sources, the symbol supposedly stands for the German expression "Schwinglikeit" which refers to an exaggerated state of male tumescence . Not buying any of this pr "pferd-scheibend", I decided to have the Mantis investigate things further . This is what she discovered:

S = the nineteenth letter of the alphabet , and 986 totals to 23 . 19 subtracted from 23 = 4 . Ferdinand Alexander Porsche actually died on the late eve April 4th, not the 5th .
19 = the aliquot sum of two odd discrete semiprimes, 65 and 77 and is the base of the aliquot tree, and it's a centered triangular number, centered hexagonal number and a Heegner number. Also, one can make the number 19 by adding or subtracting but not multiplying (whole numbers), 19 can also be made by division. And, it's the first number with more than one digit that can be written from base 2 to base 19 using only the digits 0 to 9; the other number is 20. This has Bilderberg written all over it .

19 = the atomic number of potassium, and it is alleged that most members of the Porsche family suffered from potassium deficiency .

Hmm... coincidence ? I don't think so . Good work Mantis . It's no wonder that I want to lick your mind !

smagerstein 05-02-2012 10:34 AM

S = Snapperhead

aclark133 05-02-2012 02:33 PM
