Soft Top setup issue after canvas replacing
Hi all,
I hope some of you can address me to the final solution about this issue that is driving me crazy... Ok, here is the story: I bought a new canvas from ebay (US seller). It is really fine and well manufactured with a soft vinyl rear window. I have fitted it onto the frame with some difficulties due to the fact that it seems to be a bit narrower than the original. But anyway it fitted pretty well. The only problem i had to face with is the frame setting which doesn't seem to sit in the correct position when the top in closed. From the external view, the two side acrches doesn't stay aligned and the front semi arch sits a couple of mm higher than the rear one. Another issue is coming from the locking operation which requires too force to take the front bow as down enough to engage the latch. I have tried different solutions as losing the canvas, registering the drive arms etc. I also have got the workshop manual but no tips at all. Anyone have experienced the same issue? I will later post some pics. Thanks in advance. |
Since I had my top replaced I've had to pull it down to latch it. I've seen posts from a couple other people saying the same. I don't know about your side alignment difference though. Good Luck.

Here are some pics of side arches misalignment plus a pic of the rear bottom bow which is too much close to the rear cover. I have seen other boxsters and the clearance between the softop and the cover is a bit larger .
I'm at a bit of a loss trying to settle this... http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1334912399.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1334912460.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1334912490.jpg |
I had to adjust (tightening) "service mode wires" to make more space between the rear bottom bow and the rear cover after I had changed the canvas. Of course after adjusting needed even more force to latch it...
