GoPro mounts not sticking .. any tips ?

As the title said I'm having trouble mounting the GoPro to my car. Getting ready for an AX tomorrow and the darn thing wont stick on any part of my dash or roll bar.

Wasted two mounts already .. the mount alone sticks initially with just the mount but the entire thing falls off when I add the weight of the GoPro .. I even tried warming up the adhesive a bit with a heat gun as well as clean the surface of dash.

Don't want to have to mount it to paint or glass .. but might have resort to that ..

Funny thing is it stuck so well to my bike tank that I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get it off the dash. Now just wishing the d*mn thing stuck.

Any tips for getting the glue mount to stick in the cabin would be appreciated.

PS. Don't want to use the suction mount .. WAYYY too much vibration with that thing .. the video would be useless anyways.

Here is what I did and it works perfectly, but it won't help you for this weekend:

Look at the part of the rollbar padding which is below the windstop and connects the two hoops
I found a spare on on craigslist
I then drilled 4 holes through the "sticky" GoPro mount and the rollbar padding and attached the GoPro mount with 4 rivets
This way you have a great point of view, it's securely attached and very stable

also won't help this weekend, but might look into getting the tow hook mount ...

GoPro makes a roll bar mount. See if it will work on the Box.

I doubt that a standard rollbar adapter will fit on a Boxster rollbar as these are very odd shaped

Then your suction mount is defect.
I made many very steady videos using the suction mount are there are thousands more on YouTube...

Hey Chris,

My suction mount is not defect. I'm defect. I never knew you could 'locked' the suction cup. DOH!

Doing so took 95% of the movement out of the mount. I've included a diagram here to help others Homers with this issue.

On a side note .. I actually found the post from a while back ( rollbar thread ) where there was a picture of your mount setup ( with the drilled through rollbar pads ). Just some questions in case I decide to go that route.

Did you have to countersink those 4 screw ?
Do you remember what size screw you use and perhaps where to drill ?

Thanks!

Hi

I actually used rivets, not screws
I first drilled the holes, then attached the mount with hot glue and while the glue was still soft I attached the 4 rivets, which makes it rock solid
