Rear control arm replacement

Got the rear control arm from Vertex, pulled the old one out. They are similar but the old one had a kind of nipple or washer in the ball joint that attaches to the wheel housing. One is already attached to the old ball joint. The one from the other side I pulled out is on the right. Do I push this into the new ball joint and install it? It took some force to get it out and it seems to push the rubber boot on the ball joint all the way in. That can't be good I'm thinking. IS this the standard for the rear. The front ones didn't have any.
