200 Boxster S Top

Hey, I recently bought a 2000 Boxster S with about 30,000 miles on it. I have had it for a month, and it all seems pretty good (it was inspected by a mechanic), but now I cannot get the top to open. Specifically, the release won't work and the dash light indicates that the top is open, even though it isn't.

Is there a quick fix for this, or do I need to take it to my new local neighborhood mechanic.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Check the micro switch in the handbrake, the dash light might be lit because the open or shut cycle didn't complete. When you say the release wont work I'm assuming you don't mean the aluminum handle that you unclip to begin the operation.

THanks Ghostrider. I actually do mean the aluminum handle that I unclip to begin the operation. It doesn't budge and I am afraid that I will break it if I apply too much pressure.

Have you tried holding down on the button to close until the light goes out, then try to unleash ?

just to make sure, you push up on the middle section to release handle then pull the handle down. The handle wont budge until middle section is pushed.
