high pressure fuel pump

my 2011s just had this replaced at n/c by porsche. dealer needed to order item. start to finish, over a week with engine dropped, removal of coolant hoses etc & realignment. glad it was on porsche. no indication of a problem.

This is the first time I've heard of the engine having to be removed for a fuel pump replacement .....
Is this normal on the 2011 model Boxster??

The high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) has been a huge problem with BMW. Google "BMW HPFP" or "BMW 335 Fuel Pump". You will see Porsche is not alone in this regard. Direct Injection is great -- but they really haven't worked out all of the kinks in the technology for the fuel pump. BMW ended up extending the warranty significantly on the 335. Some of the 335s have gone through multiple fuel pumps, and the really sad thing is that the new part is just as flawed as the old part (design issue).

Hopefully Porsche has a better track record...but then again...

Good luck with your car.

Audi DFI engines have similar issue as well... BMW, Porsche & Audi get the HPFP from the same supplier AFAIK... and they blame it on our dirty gas...

Faulty fuel pumps are one thing, but having to remove the engie to repair it is downright wrong. Surely the OP's information from the OPC is incorrect.....
Whatever, the long term proposition is not looking good (unless you can corner the market in aftermarket pumps......
