				Door speakers not working

			Hi all,
I have an 01 Boxster base with dash and door speakers. It came with a newer after market headunit. However, the door speakers are not working.

Before I start taking apart the door panels to investigate, I wanted to reach out to the forum to get your advice on areas I should look for and/or other resources out there.

Thanks

Well, if both door speakers are not working, I bet it's either settings on the radio unit - like the fade F/R is set incorrectly, or your main connection's are loose/bad. I wouldn't start with the door panels. Did you buy it that way?

yes, I bought the car that way and the previous owner has been out of the country.
I checked the Fader F/R and that didn't make a difference so I should look at the main connection with the head unit.

the front door speakers are feed from amp in frunck. The aftermarket head unit may not be hooked up properly. You have to feed the amp with rca jacks out of head unit. This also feeds front speakers but I rewired the front to head unit and now I have fade option with out changing door speaker sound.

yes, behind the spare tire.

that said, the standard option was radio + 2 dash speakers. to get the amp + door speakers were an upgrade option. so it's possible your car came with the standard option. it's also possible the previous owner removed and sold the amp before selling the car..

check the option codes on your sticker and compare them to the known codes:

So if you have an amp, the door speakers should work? I have an amp, so I adjusted the fader but no sound comes out of my doors. I just assumed that I only had the dash board speakers.
Would they install an amp in a Boxster that only came with the dashboard speaker option?

the door "speakers" aren't real speakers in the traditional sense. i believe they're there to provide a little more low, similar to a sub (though they're also not subs)...

Put your hand in the front of the door speaker, crank you the volume if you feel air pressure they are working. Make sure you have your base turned up too.

				Works!

Once cranked up beyond a 10 volume, it is more noticeable. Thanks.
