Key does not work in door lock

2001 Boxster

I am new to this forum as I recently bought this car knowing that the driver door had been replaced (accident). I am unable to turn the key left or right when I put the key into the door lock to manually lock it. Can anyone tell me if this is something that can be redone at my mechanic or would I need to take it to the dealer?

My key works fine in the ignition and the lockable arm rest compartment.

Thank you

Eventually you'll need to get the door lock to a locksmith and they can reprogram the lock to match your key. To get the door lock out, you need to remove the door handle. There are instructions in the Bentley manual on how to do this and it's an easy DIY if you wanted to try yourself. If you're not mechanically inclined, then your mechanic or dealer can remove it but they'll have to take it to the locksmith.

You'll have to have that door re-keyed. You didn't say whether the key fob works to unlock that door.

Thanks everyone for the reply.

My key does not work to unlock / lock the doors either and I was planning to get a new remote head from Sunset Porsche to have it programmed at the dealer or through my mechanic. (i.e. I am unable to lock my door when I exit the vehicle)
