opening the front hood without battery??
Hi all, need some help
Have owned this 98 boxster for a year, runs great, no problems. Left on a 3 week trip and disconnected battery, how do I open the front hood (to reconnect battery) ???
Obviously didn't think it would be a problem, until I got back
Can anyone help?
Thks in advance,
Pat

After you reconnect the battery, you need to put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "on" position, but don't start the car. Leave it there for at least one minute then turn it off and leave it off for at least 10 seconds. After that you can start the engine. This allows the computer to re-calibrate everything before you start it.

deli, the prob was not opening the door with a "key", but realeasing the trunk handles... (they won't move). Thks for the advice on starting the car though.
98, thks, good info, I think I need something thinner than what i have to try and release the tabs. Will let you know if it worked.
Cheers

Is there an electronic switch on some of the models that's not on the 2000? Mine has never had a problem with opening the front trunk with the handle when the battery is disconnected so any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.
Ours kept me from opening the front hatch one time, but the battery was connected. I think it had to do with the ignition switch since it went out a few weeks later. No problems other than that, though.

98, thks so much for the link, was helpful, used a 5mm allen wrench to take the module apart, released the latch and opened the hood took 3 min at the most.
One more question now, the cd player is asking for a code..... Is there a standard manufacturer's code like cell phones? Anyone know? it's a cd210...
Thks for all the help!!

The code should be on a card that looks like a cardboard credit card and says "radio code" on it. The PO may have it in their folder of receipts, etc. like ours did or in the owner's manual. It's a 4 digit code and sometimes they will write it on the inside cover of the manual. If not, you can get it from a local dealer. I think you just have to go in and give them your VIN to get it. They may charge you something for it, but should give it to you for free. It only takes them a minute to pull it up.
Btw, if it's in the car somewhere, get it out so a theif can't use the radio or won't take it without the code.

Just read in another thread, it's the S/N of the radio the dealer needs. They should be able to tell you how to get the S/N to pop up on the display.

To get the s/n, hold the TP button down for maybe 10 seconds. Then go to your dealer with the S/N and proof of ownership.
They access a data base and boon, you have the radio code.

Thks for all the help guys. Went to the dealership, no charge, did it on the spot on the cell from my car. You are correct he got the SN off the radio itself.
Cheers
