$1400 for 60k service on a '05 S???
I called a dealer in ATL and the guy says $1400 for 60k service. I asked for the details of the service and it lined up with the service manual... BUT $1400 bucks really? Anyone know of a good shop in ATL i can take Beatrix?

Not sure what the 60k service should cost, but I have 58k and the dealer had it in before I purchused and bill was a little over $4500. That was some extra hoses and seals.

$1,400 for what ? An oil change and maybe some air filters ?

So if we do the math....
Belt - $45 Plugs - $60 Oil & Filter - $75 Cabin Filter - $25 Air Filter - $25 That's $230 in parts and........ $1170 for Labor! figure $100 per hour and its going to take the mechanic roughly 11 hours to do this?...haha |

Cabin filter Air filter Spark plugs Belt "check stuff" I found Roock motorsports that quoted $900 and it's 5hrs labor. That seems a little more reasonable. Anyone deal with them? |
Drive to Charlotte and we'll do it together, you can pay me a whole lot less ;). My car is currently up doing the Cluth/IMS/RMS but I have another space in my garage...bring beer!

WhipE350- I like the approach but I will leave it to the pros... Just bought it 3 months ago. Don't want to break it yet.

It didn't take long for me to realize that these cars are pretty easy to work on and there was a lot of money to be saved by doing things myself. At this point, I've done all the regular maintenance items (plugs, belt, oil & filters, throttle body), plus I've changed the water pump and thermostat, a ruptured clutch line, changed the seats, shifter, steering wheel, etc. etc. If it was me, I'd take Whip up on his offer. Be a good opportunity to learn about your car, and having somone with some experience helping you the first few times you dive in there is a real bonus. It will also give you a good idea of what tools you are going to need. |

I would think a brake fluid flush should be done, too. And doing the trans fluid change early would be a smart move. Coolant change would not hurt either. Basically, you "zero" out the maintenance. A good thing to do when buying used, depending on the service history records you may have.
Many of you have the parts pricing wrong (low). It's more like (all OEM Porsche parts from Sunset 987S): Plugs $90 Cabin Filter Charcoal $68 Engine Air Filter $32 Serpt. Belt $36 |
Darn and my beer supply was running low...guess I have to hit ddb up for a case! Hum 2005, i'm guess the engine is still behind the seat....:)...ya take some of these on yourself, if you don't enjoy going under the car do all of them except the oil. Plugs take a little work on the first side, once you get it down the other side will go fast. Cheers!

Another way to look at it (especially for the non DIY owner enthusiast) is the maintenance is only costing 2.3 cents per mile. $1,400 / 60,000 miles. So let's say you do a 300 mile fun-run on the weekend. That'll cost ya $7.00. Not a bad price for admission.

Don't get me wrong... I always enjoy a good convo and car work. It's just not practical for me to drive to NC. I think I will stay away from Roock. Searched some threads. I have had the car for 3 months and want to make sure maintenance is proper.
