convert top liner
In checking for new top w/ glass, I see liners offered, but only for after 2000 (except the 2000 "S").
What is different to the frame/top that allows for liners post 2000, but not before? Does a liner really help for noise reduction or for holding in the heat / cool depending on the season. |
The original headliner trim must be reused. There was a problem with the front headliner plastic retainer warping. You can get the acoustic top in black from GAHH which will absorb some noise.

Thanks for the reply Peter.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is - what is the difference between the tops and/or frames that allows for a liner to be used post 2000, but not before. ie: I have a 2000 base that doesn't have a liner, but the 2000 S has a liner, as does all subsequent Boxsters. A liner supposibly can't be used with any 97-2000 Boxsters, except the previously mentioned 2000 S. What is different, and can it (the frame?) be modified to take a liner?? |
I asked the upholstery shop about it when they were putting new top in.
You CAN put a liner in pre-2001 boxsters.. the only problem, you need new plastic pieces that hold the liner, earlier cars (I have a 2000 base) have the plastic piece (the one in the middle of the frame) that doesn't have "holes"/clamps (or something like that). New plastic trim costs 200$++ at the dealer, that why shops usualy say it's not doable. Sasha |
I am in the same situation as Bengalfan...
sasha055 (or anyone else with a later car with a liner) - can you post a pic so those of us with earlier cars can see what plastic pieces and/or holes/clamps we're missing? Thanks much. |
I have a 2000 base and I have old style plastic trim.
I didn't want to pay for new trim. New trim with headliner would've been another 500$, so I passed. Sasha |
