PCA Carrera S raffle
Bought my raffle ticket. Wish me luck!
|
Good luck, Randall. I almost did this raffle this year, but I thought my odds of winning were just as good if I did not send in the $50 or $100 check. I never win stuff.:) Plus, I'm out of garage space.
|
I bought one as well, the ticket not the car.
|
tickets are sold out now.
1 in 7300 chance you'll get it. if you do, can i have your boxster? |
Sure! For just $38,500 I'd be happy to give you the keys... but you're no idiot so I know that won't happen.
Frankly, I will never be able to sell my boxster, even if I win a Carrerra. If I did, I would be forced to financially realize a whopping loss and I just can't stomach the fact that I've poured three time's a car's value into it since I purchased it! |
Flavaman, I'm out of garage space too, but that's not stopping me!
It's like having three dates to the prom. It's a serious situation in which to find yourself, but there are a lot worse problems in this life, eh? :) |
Seeing as someone else brought it up, these raffles are a bit of a thorn in my side, and are the reason I let my PCA membership lapse. The PCA is supposed to include the US and Canada, however, it seems that Canadians are second class members in this club. You'll notice that the car being raffled is a US spec car that must be picked up from a US dealership. If a Canadian wins the raffle, he/she must assume the additional expense of importing the car into Canada, or take the cash equivalent, which is actually not equivalent to the value of the car at all. There is no option to get a Canadian spec car from a Canadian dealership. I feel that if you can't offer the deal equally to all members, then it shouldn't be offered at all.
When I brought my concerns to the PCA leadership the (rather arrogant) response was basically "Too bad - if you don't like it don't buy a ticket." Another issue is the PCA Platinum Visa that is heavily advertised in every newsletter. You guessed it - not available to Canadians. When there is a PCC (Porsche Club of Canada) I will join, but I will be a second-class member in no-one's club. Even the name, Porsche Club of America, is unspeakably arrogant and assuming. It is the Porsche Club of the United States. Period. It does not represent Central or South America as most of the countries in these regions have their own clubs, and it does not fully or adequately support it's Canadian members. Anyway, that's why I'm not a PCA member. |

Mark, you make excellent points. You should write a formal letter of complaint to Porsche AG.

Hah! We could start a whole new thread (or maybe even a whole forum) on PCA complaints!

My suggestion is you start a Porsche Club of Canada. You get it started and then enjoy the results of your labors. It seems like there are a lot of Canadian owners many of which are on this forum. |
Randall - those are good odds, I thought about doing it but I don't have that good luck. I spend $50 on my Boxster though like it's nothing...guess I know where my priorities are. That would be awesome if you won...at least I would know it was a fair drawing.
On a side note, my good friend just ordered the 'New' 911 S. It will be here in mid-Feb and we are taking it to Charleston SC and then on to Savanna when it comes in. |
"Mark, you make excellent points. You should write a formal letter of complaint to Porsche AG."
Randall, I wrote the PCA at the time, copied to my own region. I don't think there's much point to trying to push it further as I just don't see a US organization being even slightly interested in making changes based input from a foreigner. All it's likely to get me is an accusation of being anti-US, followed by an air strike on my house. Fullthrottle52 - I am a club of one. |
Yea,... Good Luck with that... have you ever noticed that the 'winner' is ALWAYS an old guy, and longterm member of PCA..??
Not that I'm inferring any collusion or anything... I'm certain it's just coincidence... Cheers!! |
i didn't know PCA's headquarters were here in MD!
i enjoyed the stuff the region here (potomac) did, but really didn't care too much for the national-level. i decided not to renew my membership this year. so far i haven't missed it too much. about the only real plus was the "discount" pca members get but since most of the parts i buy are online (and/or i never had my card with me) no biggie. |
No pca membership, no DEs for me... So I will remain a member.
LB, I've been a member for 8 years and I'm fifty years old... I guess I still don't qualify, huh? |
Well, the drawing will be held today at 2 pm Eastern time.
My cell phone's charged and ready for the phone call from PCA Atlanta telling me I won the car. ... hey, I didn't enter to LOSE ya know! :) |
Well seeing as it's been an hour since the drawing I can only assume Randall's:
A. not a winner and only slightly miffed B. Won, passed out, and won't be heard from for a few hours C. Won and en route to pick up his 5 figure income tax bill on wheels :p D. Out for a drive in the Black Hole? What say you, Randall? |
I'm holding out hope that a registered letter will arrive early next week!
What's really got me puzzled is the fact that they drew the name on the 13th and it was supposed to be announced today... but it's not been made public yet as far as I can tell. If you are reading this and you see a page where the winner is named, do post it! And I was so hoping it might be ME :( ... I never win raffles. I really should stop entering them and save the money for repairs or tires or brake pads for the track. |
