sound system upgrade help

I'm not very satisfied with my 99 's sound system (like most everyone else i imagine), and with all the black Friday deals ... It doesn't sound like such a bad time for an upgrade.

I have the stock door speakers + dash speakers.

I went on crutchfield and looked through the speakers to purchase ... For door speakers I went with

Boston Acoustics SR55 5.25" SR Series 2-way Car Audio Speakers
Peak Power: 400 watts per pair / 200 watts each
RMS Rated Power: 150 watts per pair / 75 watts each
4 ohms impedance

And the dash speakers are undecided so far ... Do I need a 4in coaxial or components speakers?

My main question is, what kind of amp do I need, and how many watts? Like a 4,5 or 6 channel amp? 1000w? 2000w?

I plan on putting a subwoofer in as well, but I may just get a seperate mono amp for that if its easier

Thanks!

Nope. I love mine. Once I got everything adjusted it is fine. Enjoy your "upgrade".

I'm assuming your replacing the head unit? The factory door speakers are subwoofers and the factory units is set up for those to be subwoofers. But with a new unit, you can do whatever you want to.

I am looking at replacing the dash speakers myself. Just need to the time to do it.

Agreed. At idle, with the bass cranked up and the "loud" off the stereo has a smooth, powerful, clear bass and and a crystal clear high end. Sure, at speed the road and motor noise overwhelm the stereo, but that happens with any car.

About now someone chirps in how they never listen to the radio and that the "sweet sound" of the flat 6 is all the music that is needed.

I prefer Metallica.
