Boxster Blues

I'm having a Boxster withdrawal symptoms right now. It's a 99MY and bought it last 06with 41k miles not it has 106k mi. My boxster was a garage queen on her first year and then on the 2nd year, I start using it more but not winter time. On it's third year, I start enjoying what it's made for...AX'ing like almost every other weekend during the season. On it's 4th and present year, it's been my DD. logging in 98 mi. a day.

And now, it's been 3 weeks since the last time I drove my car and 2 more before I can start driving her.The first 2 weeks was in the shop getting 95% of her body repainted and picked it up last week and it's been sitting there till it's ready to put on the clear armor in 2 weeks :-)

Ok, enough rambling...sorry if I took your time but I know this place is the only place who could understand me :D

Post some pics of your new paint job.

Easy for most of us who store the P-car for the winter to relate to very easily... Haven't had the big snow yet, so hoping to drive just a few more times before storing.

This is what the car looks like..before and after. On the way to work, I got rained on by gravel and rocks at HWY. 85 going to work. The combination of trucks that came from the rock quarry and construction on the freeway the night before is a perfect storm that morning.

I'm just glad that I live in a area where I don't have to store it for winter time. Now I get to taste how you guys feel when storing it for months and mine has only been for few weeks :-(

We feel your pain in Canada.... Won't be driving the ol' girl till April :(

Don't feel bad. My 987 now is actually someone else's 987!
The daily driver Honda Fit just ain't cutting it and the 5 axis router the 987 is paying for won't be here until nearly the end of the year!
For some reason, I'm not crying over your having to wait for your new pretty paint to cure!!

I am driving my Boxster in our Canadian winter here and hence not experiencing any withdrawal symptoms. You have my sympathy having yours in the paint shop. Speaking of paint, I am starting to get some rock chips from the winter driving but that should be no surprise. So far it is a good winter driver on the ice and snow with good snow tires.
Your Boxster looks good with its new paint. Now the challenge is to keep it so perfect.

unklekraker 11-23-2011 09:07 PM

not even close to keeping her in perfect condition but planning to minimize the damage by applying the clear armor :D

@ curt...you sold yours for Honda Fit and 5 axis router?

Well *%$#@ I want in on the misery too, my car is awaiting a ride to Raby, he owns it now, I haven't driven it since August. I do want to leave you guys upbeat, one great thing about winter storage is how much fun it feels to break it out in spring, it's like getting a new sports car every year, which I hope happens in my life next year.

Your repair and paint looks good. What did a job like that cost ?

unklekraker 11-25-2011 04:31 AM

@ ghost...I remember that feeling when she was a garage queen before. It feels like driving a brand new car again :-)

@ Idaho..thanks! It cost $5850 for the whole paint job and that includes both side mirror. The only thing that didn't get painted is the rear trunk lid and the rear deck. I only paid my deductible of $500. The insurance even replaced the windshield and polished the headlight.

At first, the insurance said for the mileage that I have on my car, it is impossible not to have rock chip but I didn't say anything, I let them decide when they actually looked at it. What they saw is not just rock chips all over the hood but on the windshield, side mirrors, passenger side and some on the driver side.
