Misfire, Cylinder 4

Had a CEL with a code of Misfire on Cylinder 4. Replaced the Spark Plug, Tube and Connector. Still misfiring at higher gears when I "punch it".

What else could it be? The Coil itself? The Wires?

What would you do?

John, My feeling is wire. I had this problem 2 months ago with another engine, WIRE was the problem when pushing the "pedal" down. Good luck. Max in Beaufort

John - the "wires" seldom fault unless eaten out by rodents - they are 12 volt Low Tension.
The normal cause for ignition faults lie with the coilpack itself - usually starting with cracks in the insulation and made worse once moisture gets into the cracks, causing a misfire.
Replace the suspect coilpack and inspect the other 5 - once one has failed, the others seem to follow soon after.
Plus 6 x new coil packs seem to give a decent boost in performance too.....

John, Not sure about the wire. It was same problem but on a different engine(not Porsche) The coil makes sense ... also. I have a slight miss ( I think) at idle at the stop sign. Yesterday was the first trip out on the road since fuel pump replacement and noticed a little shake. Let us know , John !!! Max

Just swap a coil pack from another cylinder to #4, if 4 doesn't misfire, then its the coil pack. If it still misfires, then look to the wiring.

Hi Max....lol at the "flash" passing by. I am not familiar with McGills...I usually go to Black's. What kind of tires (make/size) do you have on the car now?

Hi John, Lot's of flash in your town !!! Tires--- Kumho ecsta asx 255 40 17 rear and 205 50 17 front These were bought by the past owner. They look a little worn but I do not know what they look like new. I need an inspection the first of Dec and do not need to fail. Are these prices in line? 255 $111.76 205 $102.87 At McGill's on Market st. Thanks again John as we are 2 hours away. Max in Beaufort

Max, my tires are as follows:

front. TOYO Proxes T1R ...$137 ea. 205's
rear. Nexxen N3000....$108 ea. 255's

So, yes your prices are in line. Looks like a difference of $60 in your favor on tires. I may need to check out McGills. I just dont know anything about Kumho's. Are they Directional tread tires? My Toyos and Nexxens are.
